      Pros

      Space itself is fascinating and talking to inspired minds is great

      Cons

      At Maxar, the leadership seemed more interested in inflating their egos than addressing real issues. Constant staff bickering about project delays created a toxic work environment. The company's struggle to retain talent was evident, making it clear that something was fundamentally wrong but leadership held onto outdated management styles, work mottos, and even legacy launch names. Overall, the experience was far from satisfactory, and the workplace dynamics made it challenging to thrive professionally. Let's not forget leadership getting a fat payout but literally telling staff complaining about low wages "too bad, you can go somewhere else".

      Horrible time to join

      Pros

      It used to be an organization with high camaraderie, where positive performance lead to career growth.

      Cons

      Maxar is an incredible example of how private equity funds can completely destroy great companies. Advent, with the help of their Bain consultants, have driven mass reorganizations and layoffs to position the company for a quick resale in a few years, leaving the company debt ridden and employees with low morale. Salary freezes have been in place for essentially a year and employees fear if they will be next to be let go. I would RUN far away from joining this organization.

      Gone downhill

      Pros

      - Lower management typically cares for their team - Coworkers are awesome - Never had a problem voicing concerns (though they were often ignored) - Cool projects and fun to see up-to-date imagery

      Cons

      - Upper management and executives make questionable decisions - Benefits continue to go up but pay does not - Remote work is practically gone, even for people who previously had exceptions due to life circumstances - Merit raises do not account for inflation - Upward mobility is not possible unless you are a favorite of management - If you have kids, most salaries will just cover childcare and some bills, so you need dual incomes - Titles don’t match your actual job description - Employees are often treated as extendible - The amount of work you are given does not match the pay
