Pros

Excellent work environment. A real "melting pot" of people from both Americas, Asia and Europe, people of both genders and of all ages, from the recently graduate to the "young person of... retirement age" who just won't retire, the company offers a large range of opportunities for many levels of skill and expertise. Good effort to minimize impact of volatile markets on work force by managing variable costs in design and development (via outside consulting) and in manufacturing (via contract manufacturing). Pretty good job security, especially for talented individuals with proven skills and expertise. Significant effort by management, even during most critical downturns of a volatile market, to identify alternate options, offer relocation and retrain people in order to keep such talent and skills inside the company. A very liberal and open approach to work activities in general, allowing everybody to express his or her personal opinion.

Cons

A tendency towards standardizing creative activities that might perhaps be excessive, with too numerous procedural forms to be followed. Such tendency, although good in theory, could lead quite often to an unnecessary volume of work with no value added.

Pros

After working in the high tech / capital equipment / semiconductor world for many years, I find Veeco's culture to be a breath of fresh air. The environment is excellent - great executive sales and service leadership, no hidden agendas, clear objectives and a team that is built to drive additional value for both internal and external stakeholders. I can see the Executive Team has spent the last several years strengthening the management bench and fostering a culture of trust while having fun at the same time! The Senior Management Team communicates well and is not just focused on quartely results but ... growing the company organically and via M&A as well. Enough structure and processes to be held accountable as a publicly-held company, but not too rigid or structured that kills innovation, progress or speed! The "team" approach at Veeco is great - people looking to make a difference, provide world-class products and differentiated technology without all the baggage of employees constantly worrying about an old-school "CYA" mentality. You can really voice your opinion and make a difference at Veeco. The company continues to invest, build engineering and spend where needed! Management has right-sized operations and facilities in a thoughtful and respectful manner.

Cons

It's not Silicon Valley, but is that a con? It's the semiconductor industry but I presume those looking at Veeco already know about the nature of capital equipment and semiconductors! The management is doing a better-than-above-average job of building businesses that help to weather the segments that are cyclical. 401K and Health Benes are better than average.

Pros

Veeco Instruments provides a platform for employees to gain experiences in a unique niche industry. Employees are an integral part in the design, redesign, and build process.

Cons

There is a lack in workplace culture that hurts the overall experience. Management to employee relations are very distant. The Human Resource efforts are a joke. This feeling is mutual throughout the company. Very little opportunity for career growth and personal development.
