Pros

During the beginning of the first year being employed with Venterra, I knew nothing really about maintenance, my first maintenance manager and his assistant took a lot of time teaching me a lot about maintenance. Including the roving manager and roving techs as well. So to them, I say thank you.

Cons

My second year was pretty much difficult. Though I learned a lot, and was sharpening my craft, I still felt like my second direct supervisor was thw lid on my progress. It was always, good but not good enough or bad. And as far as training, if it didn't come from Regional there was no real training. Nothing to really to prepare you for a promotion or anything to move you forward. I had to create my own way to get out of the hole that I was in by applying for a different position in a different location. In the interview I realized that it could be a strong possibility that I was heading to the same situation that I was trying to leave but just in a different location. So after the interview and putting some great thought to my decision, I decided to leave. So in all this, I will say that I was not perfect by no means. But what I can say is the environment that was made for me was not great as well.

Thank you for providing the feedback. While the onboarding and training that happens when someone joins one of our teams is definitely a critical part of getting someone off to the right start with us, we know that a positive employee experience means providing consistent support and having regular open conversations about performance. Creating a great resident experience requires high expectations for our employees and we encourage managers to push the individuals on their teams to grow and improve, but that absolutely requires constructive feedback being provided in a calm and deliberate way while doing so. With this in mind, I’d like to invite you to reach out to me by phone (905-717-8264) or email (rroos@venterraliving.com) to provide a few more details regarding your specific concerns. We want to make sure that we don’t have current or future employees who end up having the same negative takeaways you had, and talking it through will help us get to work on correcting any issues that might still be ongoing. Thank you again for sharing the review and in advance for any additional insight.

Great Place to Work

Pros

Venterra strives to promote a culture that is fun, engaging, and makes you want to come to work. Everyone is really great at cheering each other on and supporting each other in times of need. Just seeing what Venterra did for its Houston employees impacted by Hurricane Harvey was moving. They raised $47,000 to give back to employees in need. I don't know of many companies that would make the effort to do this.

Cons

While Venterra thrives on its culture and has many great benefits in place, I feel that salaries are still below market value.

We appreciate you taking the time to provide the feedback here and I’m happy that you’re time on the team has been positive overall! We aim to create an amazing employee experience, and filling our teams with individuals who care about and support one another is an important part of making that happen. Although we utilize industry benchmarking and regular pay evaluations with the goal of providing fair and competitive pay, there are still times when what we offer might not be in line with employee expectations, so we definitely encourage conversations on the topic with managers at any point. While quarterly evaluations are the norm for most of our positions, changes happen quickly in every role, so open dialogues and getting feedback in real-time is definitely important to making sure everyone stays on the same page. We can definitely take a closer look at the current evaluation structure for non-quarterly reviewed employees to make sure evaluation discussions are as relevant as possible, but we also want to make sure these on-the-spot manager/employee conversations are happening between formal reviews. If you feel like this is something that’s not happening as it should, please feel free to reach out to me directly to discuss in more detail. And, of course, if you have any other suggestions to help improve us as an organization, don't hesitate to speak up. Thanks again for sharing the review!

We appreciate the feedback and I’m glad that your nine years at Venterra have been enjoyable ones! Making the time to show appreciation and give credit for a job well done is definitely an important part of creating a positive employee experience, so I’m glad to hear that your hard work isn’t going unnoticed. While we aim to provide competitive benefits to employees through research and benefit renewal negotiations, there’s always an opportunity to look at new options in the future. We’ll definitely take your comments regarding plan cost into consideration when we’re next able to renegotiate pricing options with our providers. Looking forward to you keeping that winning streak going strong! Please don’t hesitate to speak up if you have any more suggestions to help make sure it does. Thanks again for providing your review here!
