Pros

You are able to meet and work with some great people and vendors. Depending on your position you are able to travel to New York and other major cities. They are closed on major Holidays and have great benefits.

Cons

A lot of turn over and people that were promoted to divisional positions were not qualified. There is not a lot of flexibility at this company. You also wear a lot of different hats as a buyer and you don't have a lot of support so you work a lot of hours and it will be stressful. The dress code is horrible. Dresses, skirts and pantyhose only even when you are traveling and working at the office on the weekends.

Pros

Time and 1/2 on Sundays, Closed on major holidays.

Cons

The numbers for the year are down and it certainly shows. Two weekends off a month was presented as a great new benefit. In reality it is helping them not pay out as much time and a half on Sundays. No more overtime even though people are still covering all over and often more than one dept. VM needs to decide who they are. When most of your customers are in on Wed to check if what sale item bought last week went on sale, that's a problem. Are the Von Maurs even aware that most of their customers are sale shoppers and ONLY sale shoppers. It's also highly demoralizing to take back any and everything. Dirty, ripped, smelly - no problem. Lie to us or not, well take it back, with a smile. You've made me hate this place with your ridiculous return policy! No wonder our clientele has drastically changed. No judgement, but we're now getting the Kmart people that lie about their returns and steal ( to return cause we'll take that back too). So is that who we are? Bargain basement or do you want to be thought of as another Nordstrom again ? You've taught the public how to treat you. And I hope you'll remember this when you're sitting around trying to figure out how you ran your company into the ground.

Pros

Pay is good. Time and a half on Sunday's. That's about it.

Cons

What is wrong with this company? Desperately needs to get out of a 1950's mindset. The dress code is SO sexist it's insane. Zero compensation is given for all the money spent on accommodating to their ridiculous dress code. Management is literally DELUSIONAL. Extremely inexperienced. My store manager was about 30 something and BLONDE. Of course. Literally a Stepford wife. If you take a job with this company, BEWARE of your "managers" smiling face because they will stab you in the back. My floor manager was in his early twenties and was definitely straight out of college with no real life experience. When they train you, they do NOT inform you that you WILL be fired if you do not meet the sales goal. Who do they think they are? Neiman Marcus? Saks Fifth Avenue? The sales goal is so utterly unrealistic it's laughable. The store is DEAD. Nobody shops at this place & they have a sales goal equal to the sales goal of a busy Macy's or Nordstrom. BUT Macy's or Nordstrom won't fire you if you don't meet their sales goal. Von Maur will. The floor manager literally told me that I slouch over the counter too much. That was one of his critiques. Really? How pathetic is that? QUIT MICRO MANAGING. Favoritism at Von Maur is at an extreme high and if you meet their goal they don't care about your other unethical wrong doings. Von Maur breeds dishonest employees that quickly lose all of their morals. Von Maur loves when you aggressively step over other employees to meet YOUR goal. Management WILL spy on you with Loss Prevention. Avoid this place at ALL COSTS! Cannot stress that enough.
