Pros

Great place for someone wanting to build a career in retail. VonMaur likes to promote from within the company. Great sales training.

Cons

The new scheduling system seems to take store management away from floor support. Some associates are scheduled too many days in a row and management just shrugs it off . Policies are stricter on employees while customers get away with some very questionable returns.

Pros

-Good Hours For Retail. (No special hours for the Holiday except for an extra hour on Sunday.) -Excellent Benifits -Pay is fair for a retail job.

Cons

-Poor job at implementing new programs. -Very poor upper store management. (I wouldn't have hired the last store manager I worked under to clean the washrooms.). -Will not support an associate in a dispute with a customer...even if it is someone with more than a proven track record. -Long time department managers should have imput in hiring for their department.

Don’t be an executive

Pros

The employees and sense of community within the stores.

Cons

Store executives are extremely underpaid. Raises are 2-3k per year and never change no matter your review rating level, longevity, or current salary level. Reviews are point based but have nothing to do with performance and everything to do with favoritism. Even after promotions you will not see "far exceeds" on a category outside of stats because "why would the company reward an executive with praise or something that they earned?" If you meet statistical goals or don’t meet statistical goals, you get the same raise. There are no bonuses and no incentives which is unheard of in today’s world. Can you believe that? That’s right.. nothing. Maybe a yearly $10 Starbucks gift card or leftover free vendor gifts. The company needs to re-evaluate base wages/raises for ALL positions based on inflation or to compete with the market. HR at corporate is smoke and mirrors and more of an administrative position. If you have a concern, it goes through the Regional and VP. This creates an extremely unhealthy and unethical environment for executives if they have a legitimate concern. Store HR is also administrative; they are not certified and do not go through credited HR training programs. Safety/Crime in the stores is not a priority; the company would rather be reactive vs proactive and keep concerns/issues quiet. This companies' management style is extremely micromanaged and does not encourage or provide executive professional growth. They have also created an unspoken rule for promotion “they will come to you if they are interested in you” which creates a toxic and unstable environment. The long term goal is to produce executives that will do as they are told and not allow them to make decisions or develop independent thinkers. (Risk management) The covid company tours did not land well with the store employees. This could have been a company wide environment game changer. Instead of building a community, a “put up and shut up” environment was created along with scare tactics of “the grass isn’t always greener.” This is why employees left and will continue to leave. Technology is in-housed and completely outdated.
