Pros

New office, company seems to spend more on nice desks and chairs. Computers are decent, nothing older than 2-3 years. Lots of community team building with the company (all virtual in 2020). Very large company mindset which makes you feel like you're part of a much bigger organization, not just an office in New Jersey.

Cons

Lack of leadership. Lack of training for new team members. Lack of integrations. All projects are drafted outside the United States which keeps costs down but also leads to poor quality. Upper management seems like they never talk to each other. Feel like there is a very big "pass the buck" mentality with few Managers actually knowing what they are doing. Very few registered architects on staff. 50 to 60 hour work weeks are normal here. You are not compensated for all your overtime. Overall they don't lead by example, they hope the employees will some how figure it out and save the projects. Maybe Ware Malcomb is a good company but you wouldn't think that from how disorganized the Newark office is. No one knows who is in charge, and no one leads.

They Don’t Care About Their Employees

Pros

The people you work with are fun to be around....sometimes.

Cons

Too many to list. First of all, the company changed CEO’s about a year ago. That’s when all went downhill. COVID-19 hit a year ago and the company does not even know what it is doing. Ken Wink and the executive team told the company we were doing so well despite the pandemic and how much they appreciated us. Yet our salaries were frozen (and still are) and they laid off a bunch of people the week after. What kind of message does that send! Not only that but they are still hiring a bunch of people. Yet they still can’t give us any raises? It’s tough working from home and being scared of the pandemic but they keep pushing us to work in the office. They don’t care about our safety no matter how many times they say they do. The workload is overwhelming. We work a lot more than we should and what our job descriptions state and don’t get compensated for it. They have these medallions they give out to people who deserve recognition. What are we going to do with those? The morale is really low at this company. I’ve heard a lot from other team members about their disappointment with WM’s handling of this situation. I understand it’s a pandemic and not everyone was prepared, but WM was severely underprepared. If you want to work for a company that treats you like a disposable worker instead of a human being, this place is for you. They don’t treat us “like family” no matter how many times they say so. Don’t be fooled by all the positive reviews. They are usually from upper management. The response from HR is also very generic. They are not helpful at all.

We know the ongoing pandemic has presented many challenges to our team members and the company. We have done our best to ensure the company’s financial stability to weather this uncertain time to provide as much long term security for our global team as possible. Ware Malcomb has not had to implement some of the more drastic fiscal measures, many of our competitors have had to utilize this past 10 months. We nimbly shifted to a work-from-home environment at the start of the pandemic, and any office that is jurisdictionally allowed to reopen is voluntarily staffed with strict safety protocols in place. Our Executive Team is trying to do what is best for our entire global team under these unprecedented circumstances. Your feedback is being shared with them. If you feel comfortable, we suggest you connect with our Director, Human Resources, so you have an additional resource to share your concerns.

Pros

1. Nice Christmas party 2. A lot of Projects are in the financial district, makes it easy to visit the sites. 3. Office in the financial district with lots of food options around.

Cons

1. Very small office; around 8 employees . Some employees work from home or in other offices at times, making the office empty most of the time. 2. All the projects are corporate interiors, with small budget and intent of getting them done as quick as possible, resulting in low quality, repetitive work. There is lots of copy and paste from other projects. 3. The office is extremely corporate. You will be pigeon holed. Designers only do design. construction documents are done by a team in another office. Job captains are responsible for production coordination, with no design, client exposure or construction administration work. 4. Management gives you lots of work with unreasonable deadlines, then blames you for every error in the drawings even if it is not your fault. You are expected to work late most nights with no appreciation or even respect. There is a hostile environment where people are stressed out and pointing fingers, instead of helping each others and working as a team.
