Pros

I joined WesleyLife about a year ago and couldn't be happier to be here. WesleyLife has a remarkable 77-year history as a nonprofit serving many across Iowa (and Illinois). Many lives have been touched for the better because of our mission throughout the years. I'm energized daily by our revolutionary vision and innovative ideas that continue to challenge the narrative of ageism. We provide incredible service to our customers in helping them pursue and find their joy. Come join us as a team member to advance the impact on those we serve. Its a meaningful and purposeful, along with supportive working environment.

Cons

I don't have any to share currently.

Pros

The pro's of working for this place is most of the nurses and CNAS are likeable. Management on the other hand... not so much. They offer free meals which is something most facilities do not do.

Cons

Management is a mess. I was offered a lowball wage with the promise of the work being so much easier. No. At a regular facility, We are not expected to put an entire hallway to bed alone on top of showers and do laundry, serve the dining room, and possibly clean it if the cook isn't in your cottage. I was promised multiple bonuses which I never received. It took four months to get access to my UKG. Their HR lost my orientation paperwork and I was threatened with a write up over it being gone four months... I was never allowed to do relias during my work schedule like other employees. I was expected to do it at home or come in on my day off. If you run into an issue with neglect (which will happen a lot) management will not care. Favortism is this places game and if you are not in with management, you will be thrown all over the building and treated like crap. I wouldn't send anyone to work for this place. Last con is 99% of their employees will refuse to leave their cottage if your partner calls in and management will do nothing about this. You are on your own. Also, I had to go PRN due to how mean a particular cottage was. I was harrassed over my social media. Took this issue to management and nothing was done until I had to forcefully remove myself from a toxic work environment. The $17 an hour this place offered for the amount of drama and extra work I did was a joke. 1/10 and I would never send anyone I know to work here.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your impressions about your time in one of our Communities for Healthy Living. It’s unfortunate your experience with us was not what you, or we, would have expected. In talking with leadership in that community about your concerns, we learned that some of your experiences occurred during a time when we were expanding and our staffing levels fell short of ideal for a period of time. As a team, we’ve worked very hard to get through the challenges and are proud that we’ve been able to improve! We’re thankful that others’ reviews of their positive experiences and the widespread attraction to our mission have boosted interest in WesleyLife, and that as a result, recruitment and retention are less of an issue today. We give credit for this improvement to the team, the culture they create together, and the supportive relationships they build with each other and with the people we serve. We hope you were able to discuss your concerns with your leadership at some point during your time with us. We continually challenge ourselves to be better. We know we occasionally fall short of expectations. We also know that location is led by some of the most compassionate individuals in our organization. I know from personal experience that the location’s executive director and leadership would have worked to help find a solution that would have eased the stress you experienced. If you would be willing to discuss your concerns further, I would appreciate the opportunity to have a conversation with you. Please reach out to me anytime. Sincerely, Kristy VanDerWiel, Chief Culture Officer kvanderwiel@wesleylife.org
