Pros

Coworkers were good people, ceo was personable

Cons

Not the best place to grow as a developer with tech stack being based on a proprietary programming language. The language in use is java based and used mainly in the insurance. It's difficult to learn, with limited documentation, and there was limited access to subject matter experts. There were required certifications I found to be difficult. The team had good people but the "scrum" structure was really just waterfall with upper management

We hear time and time again that the people and culture at our organization are the main reasons that we are a great place to work! We are sorry to hear that you feel you were not able to grow within your position. We are constantly working to improve professional development opportunities for our employees. In 2022, we launched an in-house Learning and Development Team to assist with employee training and onboarding. We are pleased to share that they are actively working on fleshing out and refining our onboarding and training process for all employees in all departments. It is our hope that these efforts will be beneficial for many, including our IT Teams, as we know that our IT processes and procedures are unique to the insurance industry. Friendly staff and culture No micro management (depends on team) Flexible hours and wfh arrangements

Cons

Lacks structure and comprehensive training.. if that's what you are looking for. Otherwise not an issue for self starters and those who embrace uncertainty. Pay is average... could be higher since Seattle is a HCOL city and company performs well.

Thank you for the positive review! We appreciate your comments about our friendly employees and culture, as we believe these are two aspects that set us apart from our competitors. Similarly, we recognize and promote the importance of work-life balance, which is why we offer flexible and hybrid work arrangements so that our employees can be there for the things that matter in their personal lives. In 2022, we launched an in-house Learning and Development Program to promote professional development for all employees at every level of the organization. While we have made great strides toward providing a comprehensive and robust training program, we know that there is still work to be done. We are preparing for the launch of many new learning and development initiatives in 2024, and we know that these programs will contribute to a strong onboarding and training process for our employees. In regard to your comment on wages, we assess our compensation package continuously throughout the year, which includes an analysis based on geographic location of our offices. We do offer a comprehensive benefits package, which combined with yearly profit-sharing bonuses and other bonus incentives based on position, creates our total compensation package that our employees receive for their work. Pros

Western National cares about its employees. You feel like family here instead of just another face. Everybody is warm and welcoming and very inclusive of new hires. They do little things for you that make you feel appreciated like the monthly mingle, miniature golf, and they have food trucks come right to the building so that you can get a great lunch. The welcoming attitude starts at the top with the Sr. Mgmt. Can you name another company where within the first couple weeks you will meet the CEO of the company and sit and chat over coffee? The hybrid work schedule where you can work at home part of the week is great when the weather turns nasty in the winter. Theya re very quick to make sure that their employees are not risking themselves to get to the office if they could do their job from home. As a bonus, the pay and benefits are great also.

Cons

Sometimes getting from the Eastern side of the Metro area to the office can be trying as the traffic can be is heavy.
