Pros

Flexible schedules, good community outreach.

Cons

Extremely poor communication. Just about everything is outdated to include the employees. Retention is a problem in the opposite direction here. There are too many employees that refuse to adopt to new technologies and processes because of being over 60 and set in their ways.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad you found value in our community outreach—it’s important to us to give back to the communities in which we work and live. On the retention note, we think our people are a big part of what makes Western National a great place to work, and our retention rate reflects that. With that being said, we continually hire new talent to bring fresh ideas to the table. We also appreciate your note about communication. We encourage the continued development of supervisor communication skills (most recently with companywide management training), but we’re always looking to improve. If you have additional feedback, please feel free to contact us at HRmail@wnins.com.

Pros

Western National Insurance has been a great place to work for the 10+ years I've been with the company. Among the 'pros' of my personal experience: - Advancement opportunities: The company has made an effort, especially recently, to develop clear career paths that reward hard work and initiative. They also offer a generous continuing education program that provides financial reimbursement for industry courses, which gives employees even more support to move along those career paths. - Above-average benefits, especially on the health insurance front. - Highly competent senior leadership, who have guided the company to an A+ rating (as of May 2017) and above-average financial performance for over a decade. They ask the right questions and set the right course. As an employee, I feel like Western National is a highly secure, well-run place to work. - Solid work-life balance: Most employees are able to work a standard Monday - Friday schedule without significant overtime/weekend work. The starting Paid Time Off balance is generous. - The company's Paid Day of Volunteer Time policy has been a really great way to take some time away from the office and use it in service of local non-profits.

Cons

Especially in the earlier part of my time at Western National, the company culture was slower to adapt to change; though an influx of new employees and new programs around change management have helped turn the tide. The company has occasionally been more slow in adapting its technology, and only recently put significant resources into its wellbeing programs, but both of these seem to be areas of stronger focus now.

Pros

Joining Western National is one of the best career moves that I've had the opportunity to make thus far. This is a company that cares about providing opportunities for employees to advance their careers as well as learn new skills alongside industry information. The people that you work with are friendly, dedicated, and fun (and makes the job that much better!). In addition, the variety of work that we get to see on our team is rare and allows each person to utilize their skills and strengths.

Cons

Western National is a rapidly growing company that has been operating as a smaller company for some time. The technology transformation and change management are a work in progress. However, there is momentum and strong leadership in these areas to finesse and help overcome these challenges.

Thank you for leaving us a five-star review and such wonderful feedback! At Western National, we encourage lifelong learning, skill development, and career exploration by providing our employees with resources, training, and opportunities that promote personal and professional growth. We’re pleased to read that you recognize and appreciate our efforts in this area. We are also happy to read that you value your co-workers. We believe that our outstanding people are part of what makes Western National a great place to work. We also appreciate your comments on areas in which we can improve. As you note, we have grown significantly in recent years. While we have made considerable effort to evaluate and update our systems and processes to create the best experience possible for our customers and employees, we are still experiencing some growing pains in certain areas. It is our hope in the next few years, our technology will be equipped to handle the challenges we face as an organization. We are always looking for feedback on areas in which we can improve. If you are willing to share, please contact us directly at HRmail@wnins.com.
