Great opportunities for entry and mid-level employees; more difficult for senior level and PMs
Pros
Work/life balance is great; the people you work with every day are excellent at what they do; the work is meaningful and rewarding; and there is a great work family atmosphere. Many opportunities for entry level and mid level employees in the technical realm.
Cons
Restructuring in past few years has created organizational silos that make it harder for PMs to branch into new subject areas. For the most part, you are either dedicated to Federal projects, or you are reporting up the Commercial, State, and Local chain. There is little opportunity to be in both worlds unless there is the backlog to justify, which there is not. Some Directors and Ops Managers are out of touch with what PMs and technical staff do day in and day out. More pressure is on PMs making profit than on Sales Managers making sales to provide backlog. There is an imbalance on PM pay across the company. The higher up the food chain you get, the harder it is to find work when your project assignments slow or close down.
