Pros

Known Product with a long and illustrious history. When you walk into a school, they all know who World Book is.

Cons

Management that takes everything personally. You need to meet monthly goals that can be as high as 300% over the same month in the previous year. If you are not at your monthly goal 2/3 through the month, be prepared for daily calls or emails from the manager badgering you. Micromanaging is the way management rolls here.

We have a very autonomous work environment across our Sales division. We're actually opposed to micro-managing because it's doesn't lead to growth. Reps work from home and develop whatever work routine works for them. I would actually welcome any sales candidate considering a job at World Book to have discussions with our top performing sales reps at World Book (I'll personally arrange that interaction via Skype, in person or over the phone). There is indeed more interaction between the VP/Mgr and the rep when goals aren't being met. This is the case with any Sales division in any industry across the country and world.

"Management needs to get more brand recognition" as a pro...I question the validity of any of these comments.

Pros

World Book set, that's all

Cons

Sell, sell sell is all you hear with absolutely NO support! No professional development, no marketing at all. When the new CEO came in and dismantled the executives, he never replaced them to leave field staff on their own with NO SUPPORT. Terrible example of management. They have not invested in products that clients want or need but push what the exec's think should sell. What about asking clients what they need?

We always believe that we can sell more of our great products each day. Most of the time, our belief is supported by empirical data direct from customers or from sales rep results. I do understand the angst and stress that sometimes comes with those that work in Sales...it's a tough profession. I'm satisfied with the level of support that the home office provides the sales organization, but there's always room for improvement. I appreciate this feedback.
