Pros

I have nothing positive to say about Wynn Resorts.

Cons

My employment at the Wynn started about three years ago. They were recruiting for the development of a special operations security team, which would be tasked to prevent dangerous people and weapons from entering the property, as well as reacting to potentially dangerous situations that might occur. They put together a group of four prior special operations military members (Tactical Response Unit - TRU) and made them all assistant directors. These individuals were responsible for supervising the Security Special Operations department. The Special Operations Department was comprised of 40 (although we very rarely were at full manning) former Marine Corps veterans whom all shared the same background of Marine Corps Embassy Security Guards. They made us all salaried, line-level, employees. The salary aspect allowed them to force us to work more, without additional compensation, in times when they were unable to maintain our basic manning requirements. Their inability to maintain the manning requirements directly links back to TRU, as those individuals would work for only two days and be gone for six. There was always one there, but there was zero continuity and each only cared about certain things. This caused many problems, because whenever issues were brought up, they were rarely solved. Fast-forward to about 6 months ago, TRU was abolished and replaced with one administrative assistant director, it would seem that the Wynn decided they weren't necessary. TRU may not have been necessary, but Special Operations Guards were determined to be. Until recently, everything was going fine, until they decided to open the job up to other applicants. This did not seem like a big deal, but the news today said otherwise. Per the director of security and the Wynn's employment lawyer, the salary aspect will be changing to hourly and dropping by approximately $15,000 per year. On top of that, all current employees who have contracts will be forced to resign when their contract is up. The issue here is that a good amount of those contracts end on October 3rd of this year, one month from today. Essentially, they are forcing a bunch of veterans out of work with only a one-month notice. They are also not honoring the terms of the contract they provided to us, by stating that if we do not submit to the new terms, they will terminate us one week from today, without paying the one month of severance pay mandated. The contract clearly states that if any amendment is to be made, both parties must sign it. My experience at the Wynn has been riddled with poor leadership and ineffective management. Everyone I work with is miserable, but management doesn't seem to understand why. Perhaps it is because they do not care.

Pros

Well-established brand. Got many job offers elsewhere after having Wynn on my resume and deservedly so. Wynn truly is the epitome of 5-star/5-diamond standards and they make their employees learn and execute it every day. Great Employee Dining Room, excellent medical benefits, true pride to say where you work, sexy business cards. Director in my department was excellent. Andrew Pascal was the best President until he bailed in 2010.

Cons

After Pascal left, battled another 3 years under his successor (who will not be named) and couldn't stay any longer. Operations and quality took a painful nosedive, new management was brought in with no actual management skills, some departments dissolved and their work thrown on other departments' shoulders with no raise. Basically, they lost all their best C-Suiters that made that hotel 5-star in the first place, then brought in young hot shots who know nothing but were willing to work for less. Still giving this place high marks for two reasons: 1. I hear Maurice W., a Day One-er, is now President. Good riddance to his predecessor. 2. At the end of the day Wynn and Encore (alongside Bellagio and Aria) are the best casino hotels in the world and everyone knows it.

Pros

The development team was awesome! I found working with them to be a pleasure! Additionally, there was another manager who partnered with me and went out of his way to train and help me. He was a diamond among the coal. Wynn provides some good perks.

Cons

When I was offered the position I was told there was no “wiggle room.” That should have been a red flag. I quickly discovered the manager had no interest in setting me up for success. Shockingly, they were working without a schedule nor were they interested in purchasing MS Project scheduling program. I inquired about using Basecamp and that was a no go too. Manager couldn’t even read a QA/Bug report. Manager put on a facade of being nice at first stating, “we’re a family” the repeated slogan; but soon that changed. The manager was duplicitous, didn’t respond to any of my emails which hampered my ability to perform my job. Manager also ignored my Skype messages and canceled all my meetings for one-on-ones. The team has poor communication and does not reply to emails. The last month the manager completely ignored me and refused to even speak to me. As a manager myself, I have never experienced such unprofessional conduct. Manager set up meetings excluding me from that line of communication. At the very last day the manager had a representative come from Employee Relations to tell me I failed to pass the probationary period. During that meeting the manager still did not talk to me. I was hardworking, professional, polite, and always cordial. My last job I excelled at and had glowing reviews. I left my previous company for Wynn which I regret. I recently had surgery on my leg but still walked to work everyday. I was never late nor did I miss any days. I found the manager to lack any knowledge in website development and intimidated the staff to suppress independent thought. The manager went as far as to excommunicate me from the team and treated me like a second class citizen.
