Pros

Comp and it’s totally remote as long as you don’t live within 50 miles of an office…in which case you’re required to go in twice a week even if your 50 mile commute takes you 2 hours

Cons

Zoom is a wildly uninspiring place to work. I have never encountered a company less concerned with employee welfare. Constant layoffs. Lots of offshoring roles to China and the Philippines. Everything internally feels chaotic and disjointed because they’ve cut so close to the bone, like you’re on one of those phone calls with an AI operator who keeps saying “sorry I didn’t get that”, except that’s every interaction. There wasn’t a single offsite or opportunity to meet anyone in 2.5 years of working there. I had 4 managers. The leadership is robotic and impersonal. Not to mention the security concerns of developing AI technology in China. I hate to trash a former employer, but I just would not recommend working there to my worst enemy and wish I had known myself

Thank you for sharing your perspective. It’s good to hear the compensation and remote setup were positives in your experience. It's unfortunate that the rest of your experience didn't match the values we uphold at Zoom. If you have any further feedback, please reach out to engagement@zoom.us. Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors.

One Long, Gradual Decline

Pros

- The people you work with are incredible. Talented and hardworking - Products generally speaking are great - Flexibility of work is a great perk (despite the extremely ironic push for more in-person working requirements if you live within an arbitrary radius of an office, irrespective of actual commute time, if you signed your offer as a remote employee, etc.)

Cons

- Leadership, despite what they will tell you, is one of the least transparent I've experienced - Perks and benefits have largely been reduced in the last few years - Career growth is extremely limited - "Reorgs" and silent layoffs have become a constant and the new normal - The culture has absolutely PLUMMETED in the past few years. In 2018 and 2019 this was a Glassdoor Best Place to Work top 5 company; it hasn't been on the list since 2022 and there's a reason for that - Leadership hiring (or lackthereof) -- there has been a stream of executives hired and gone within a year all while Eric thinks he can serve as CEO, our Chief Marketing Officer (?), and a variety of other roles. How many Fortune 1000 companies don't have a dedicated CMO?

Pros

Not fully sure at this point anymore - health insurance seems to be the biggest perk at the moment. Working remote so you can physically get up and leave your desk when things go awry? Not having to go into an office and physically see the pain on your colleagues faces and bodies?

Cons

Employee morale, leadership, lack of strategy, benefits, salary, coworkers. Zoom cannot compete anymore with other employers - ESY has driven this place headfirst into the ground - and admitted that in writing. Time to re-evaluate life and move-on. This place is soul-crushing, offers no gratitude for your time or health sacrifices, and offers no path for growth, upward mobility, or promotions. Middle managers should be the next to go....gate keepers. If everything is urgent - is anything urgent...?
