1. There are not enough people to do the job. They pay well to compensate for this fact. But it will not change. Expect to do several jobs. 2. Individual contributors have no ownership. Unless something goes wrong, in which case, you will definitely own it. Don't bother defending yourself if someone senior to you is asking about it. 3. Priorities change on the weekly basis. A rotation of questions like "What are you doing for My Notes?", "What are you doing for ZoomMate?", "What are you doing for Phone?" will be asked of you every week. You will have to make slides on a weekly basis (template will be AI-generated by someone else, btw) to answer these vague questions. You must be ready to answer any follow-up question posed to you by anyone at any level (including C-suite) on a live call. If you don't have a clear person to blame for the lack of results, you will be blamed, so be sure to have your favorite scapegoat ready. 4. Politics rule the day. Some of the senior leadership cannot stand to be in the same room together, let alone agree on ownership. They leave those essential conversations to their subordinates and then punish them for having said conversations without them. 5. Taking ownership of something or suggesting a solution is discouraged because it means it's now your responsibility. You will NOT get any credit if it goes well, but you WILL get credit if it goes wrong! 6. Everything is a blame game. You will get blamed for things you didn't even realize you were responsible for. Someone will say that you are responsible for something you've never even touched because they were covering for themselves in a meeting. This will happen to you, I guarantee it. Doing this to other people is one of the best ways to be successful at Zoom. Deflect, delay, or blame someone else. 7. Everything is urgent. 8. Even if you're crucial to the team, you will likely never feel secure about your job. Things can (and do) change overnight. 9. Recognition is non-existent. Blame is the only currency. Save the company from huge security vulnerability? *crickets* Save the company from Google blacklist? *crickets* Change a headline on a product page without approval? *Get ready for your weekend to be ruined!* 10. "I'm not taking 'no' for an answer" will be used to justify outrageous, pointless requests. 11. "Don't worry, someone else is getting in worse trouble." This is unironically used as a comforting statement at Zoom. Ask yourself if that makes it any better. If this review saves one person with a half-decent job from choosing Zoom, it was worth it. I am aware that anyone who sees this review can deduce who I am from the job title. I wanted to avoid putting the job title for my own sake, but just putting "SEO" in the name would be a dead giveaway. I am writing this to give a warning to anyone who would take this job that you will be in the worst position you could imagine. Only take this job if you desperately need the money or have a personality that can take blatant disrespect and daily exercises-in-futility for months on end. Disclaimer: I obviously cannot speak for the other departments. There might be pockets of great culture in the company, but they aren't in the Online/Web org. TRUST me.

There’s zero sense of team unity, making daily work stressful and demoralizing. - Internal politics dominate, creating an exclusionary atmosphere, sidelining non-members and fostering an “US vs. China” dynamic. No Vision or Growth Opportunities: - There’s no clear roadmap or strategic vision for the DevOps team. Work feels reactive, like constantly firefighting without a plan, leaving employees directionless. - Professional growth is nonexistent. No training, mentorship, or skill-building programs are offered, and promotions seem tied to favoritism rather than merit. Knowledge Gaps and Poor Documentation: - No one understands the systems end-to-end. Critical processes lack documentation, and knowledge is siloed, forcing employees to waste hours reverse-engineering workflows. - The absence of knowledge sharing creates a culture where everyone is guessing, undermining efficiency and reliability. DevOps as “Click Engineers”: - DevOps roles are reduced to mindless button-pushing, with all major decisions and tools dictated from China. There’s no room for innovation, autonomy, or actual engineering. - Local teams are treated as executors of pre-set workflows, eroding any sense of ownership or creativity. Incompetent Leadership: - Instead of leading, they focus on building a protective clique of loyalists to shield themselves from accountability, prioritizing self-preservation over team success. Chaotic “Zoo and Circus” Culture: - The organization feels like a disorganized circus, with cliques clashing, rumors running rampant, and no collaborative spirit. It’s a chaotic environment that breeds burnout.
