Not what I expected

Pros

Decent culture and they provide a product that is in demand.

Cons

I've only worked only in the Professional Services department, so I can't comment on any other department. To sum up that department, its essentially a sweatshop. Be expected to work long hours and deal with unrealistic customer expectations. Seems like management allows clients to dictate how the project should run and never considers input from members of the internal team. You would also think a software company will have a QA department, but for some reason this company doesn't have one. What makes it worse is the majority of the bonus structure is predicated on the quality of the product delivered. Pay isn't bad but it isn't good. High turnover rate. Career growth is minimal and you will most likely just grow within the department.

Pros

Excellent career opportunities, access to latest technology, good people, friendly work environment, lots of access to extracurricular activities.

Cons

I don't personally work in the professional services department but from an outsider view it looks like a sweatshop. Sometimes the things I hear from our developers are just scary. I am not sure where they find some of these people. I honestly trust the interns opinions more than our senior developers. Same thing with project managers, not sure where we are finding these people but we need to start looking elsewhere.

Not what it appears to be....

Pros

Addressing a big need in the life insurance space.

Cons

Out of touch leadership. The exec team and managers pretend they want input, but the reality is if you're not part of the "in-crowd" or one of their cliques, your opinion just doesn't matter. Some people set up for success and untouchable, others set up for failure and always at a disadvantage. Constant blame-games and politics among departments, while completely ignoring obvious problems (and people, especially in key positions). Decisions get made in a vacuum, with no one validating the assumptions built into the plans. Why hire smart and talented people and then completely ignore them and shut them down? Top-down dictatorial culture pretending at empowerment and inclusion. Company has a split personality culture.
