Pros

iPipeline is an awesome place to work. Although there is some ancient products still being maintained newer products are taking advantage of new technologies(Mongo,Docker,Octupus,etc...) and modern DEVOPs methodologies to deploy. The people here are second to none and there is a great atmosphere for camaraderie including many off-site activities/sports and happy hours. Career progression is attainable assuming you go above and beyond in your current duties and are innovative in finding improvements. There is after-hours work for most people which is normal in IT but time is flexible and most departments have a one day a week work from home policy when needed. When I started the company had many issues scaling our products but has invested millions into the back-end infrastructure with state of the art hardware that has led it to be a world-class enterprise.

Cons

The main issue here is the customers. Financial companies are very hard to work and it can get stressful to hit deadlines for multi-million dollar projects as the core product drives salaries for our customers and any mistakes can cost dearly both internally and externally. New annuity product Affirm deals with large banks which are even tougher to work with than Life Insurance companies. Health benefits are average but competitive to similar sized companies.

Excellent advise and we are working on those ideas that you recommend, especially a future annuity platform.

Pros

iPipeline has a bold vision for the insurance industry which is lagging behind most other industries. The work is does is not easy but helping make sure more families have appropriate life insurance is a great driver. The people are great to work with. Passionate and fun. Great perks including a wellness program that is pretty active. They put a nice gym in the new expanded space and have showers and a running/bike trail outside of the office. There have been a lot of opportunities for promotion which is good.

Cons

A lot of growth has happened over the last few years which has definitely put a strain on employees from time to time. Management does a good job of addressing problem spots when needed and is pretty transparent.

Thank you for the post and your advise. Our goal is to keep growing but we really are trying hard to grow with less disruption to the organization and our people. The past two years were difficult growing from 200 to 450 employees but I believe we have made the right investments and hires to absorb more growth in a more effective way. I am always open to feedback so please keep me posted on our advise. Tim

Pros

iPipeline is very good at promoting from within, so it is a good place to work long-term and have room for career growth. They have focused more and more on employee happiness over the last few years and it is now a great place to work.

Cons

It would be nice if the work environment was more casual (since it's a software company), but part of that is the Insurance Industry side of things. They are also not entirely flexible with work hours or with allowing remote work.

Thank you for you note and suggestions. Our flex time policy allows for 20% variance in hours and time, thus if your manager approves you can work 1 day a week remotely. I do believe, and studies show, that remote employees do effect productivity, morale and team work negatively. Thus, the 20% rule developed by our employees seems to be liked by most of our employees and provides for flexible scheduling of time. As for dress our Salt Lake office is the most casual office we have and we are in a very conservative industry. At headquarters in Exton we average 2 customer visits a week and most of the customers still come in suits and ties. Thank you for the post, Tim
