Pros

Some people and management is still good locally if they survived the massive layoffs following onsemi aquiring the globalfoundries/ibm legacy employees.

Cons

Onsemi will cut your pay through furloughs, slash your bonuses, layoff as many people as they can. Then try to convince you they're one of the worlds most ethical companies even as their CEO squanders millions on a company paid indy car which doesn't even have onsemi components. (we make parts for electric cars, not indy cars)

Pros

I started here in 1993, when it was Motorola, after graduating Magna Cum Laude in Chemical Engineering. I loved working in New Product Development. I was a program manager for the IGBTs in the SPG/PSG division.

Cons

I was involved in an accident and went on medical leave. They hired two H1B visas to take my place. When I came back, I was laid off.

Pros

onsemi develops impactful technology in sustainability, electrification and semiconductors. From silicon carbide solutions to advanced image sensors, there’s a genuine opportunity to work on products that will shape the future of EVs, AI and robotics. Some individual colleagues are incredibly talented and collaborative.

Cons

The biggest letdown is the culture, or lack thereof. Onsemi talks a lot about sustainability, but it’s pretty clear the motivation is financial, not ethical. The headquarters feels soulless. Leadership is rarely around, but still expects employees to show up just to make the building look full. Meanwhile, certain individuals are granted full remote status with no explanation. It creates a frustrating “rules for some, not for all” dynamic that kills morale. Executive leadership often feels out of touch and if you have a problem with it, they don't care. Communication from leadership is minimal. Outside of quarterly all-hands meetings (basically earnings calls for employees), where pre-selected questions are answered and real concerns are avoided, there’s little transparency or engagement. Outside of that event, top-down communication doesn't really exist. Alignment across teams is a constant struggle. Initiating meaningful change is nearly impossible because no one can agree on a direction or process to get the right approvals promptly. The marketing org is unstable, with key team members cut and no clear strategy in place. Despite the “world-class team” pep talks, most people know the reality is far from it.
