Not an employee friendly company

Pros

You do get a lot of time off. They finally bumped up the wages.

Cons

ON insists that all injuries are the employee's fault and didn't happen at work. Nepotism and favoritism is rampant. If you don't have a college degree, even if it's not related to the industry, you will not even be considered for promotion. You also need to be related to someone in the company and/or be military. Management has become micromanagement and no matter how hard you work you're not doing enough. They take advantage of knowledgeable employees but refuse to reward them. The overall experience is hostile and oppressive.

Pros

The company is going through a major "transformation" under a new CEO when I left. Hopeful this will address the Cons while keeping the Pros, but take these as a snapshot of the old ON. Thoughtful approach to important decisions (due diligence and consensus building) Employee-centric through development programs, diversity initiative, and respect for knowledge gained from long-term, older employees Very high ethical standards Large product portfolio helps even out financial impact of business cycles Large internal manufacturing footprint

Cons

Ossified, matrix managed, and highly bureaucratic, so very slow moving projects along Too many projects: not enough culling of ideas early to allow focus on most important ones; manufacturing transfers happening all the time to balance factory loading Not enough resources to support all projects Tries to be "fast-follower" in many product lines, not a leader, but cost considerations make it more of a "slow-follower" Business units control everything from manufacturing to R&D, so extra overhead when trying to execute a plan

Pros

Imaging is a growing and exciting field, unfortunately here it is not enjoyable

Cons

Poor management resulting in high attrition Toxic culture - Lots of finger pointing Poor product execution - Products miss release dates by YEARS, not months Over commit to customers - Many irate customers due to unkept promises
