Trip Savers are equipment that significantly reduce and even prevent power outages for our customers. We’ve installed more than 1,000 of these smart devices on our electric system so far. Our President of Electric Operations, Steve Sullivan, talks about what they do. 🎥⬇️
“As the demands of increasing electrification require more from our electric grid, transmission is the key enabler of our clean energy future. At Eversource, building clean energy technologies to create a more reliable energy grid is a top priority of ours and is something that is important to our customers and the state of Connecticut.” —Joe Nolan, our Chairman, President and CEO talking about the future of offshore wind while visiting the State Pier in New London. When Dean Manley’s son Keion was eight years old, he had an Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) which led to an aneurysm that ruptured and started bleeding in his brain. The now 15-year-old is non-verbal, vision impaired, muscular quadriplegic and hears and understands everything. For Dean, the Eversource Hartford #Marathon is a way to bond and connect with his son who is wheelchair dependent. “Keion was always a daddy’s boy. Whatever I was doing, he wanted to be a part of it,” said Dean, an Eversource Project Manager. “When this happened, it became hard for us to find activities we could share. Now with running races, it’s something we’re able to do together as a team.” Dean and Keion will be running the half marathon together on Saturday. Jewell Covington’s checklist for the Eversource Hartford Marathon includes: ✔️ Run the Charity 5k with her grandsons Jace and Tristan ✔️ Volunteer at the finish line The 5K was on her bucket list a few years ago as a way to get healthy and it will be her 7th year volunteering. Not only does she love to participate at the marathon, Jewel also raises funds for charities. Alzheimer's Association® and Connecticut Children's have helped her family in the past and because she and her sister are cancer survivors, Jewell donates to American Cancer Society. “I love that I can give back.” #HartfordMarathonFoundation #runHartford #teamEversource
After immigrating to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic, Adonis Tavarez took a position as a contract day porter maintaining work centers to support his family. It wasn’t long before our Electric Field Operations Director Cliff Williams recognized his hard work and dedication. When Cliff encouraged Adonis to join his team, Adonis overcame the challenge of learning English so that he could pass the aptitude test. He's now an underground splicer apprentice in Stamford. "I feel like my life has already changed. It's an amazing career." Hear his story 👇
After teaming up with New Milford, CT to complete #energyefficiency upgrades at 12 community buildings, the town is saving about 1.25 million kilowatt-hours each year. That's the equivalent of nearly 900 metric tons of CO2 or driving more than 2 million miles in a gas-powered car! This morning, we joined New Milford Mayor Pete Bass to tour energy efficiency improvements that are helping Sarah Noble Intermediate School save energy, reduce its footprint, and enhance the comfort of the building for students and staff. From a young age, Riley Turner enjoyed building with her hands. After exploring architectural design and other career paths at the Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School, everything fell into place when she discovered electrical technology. "I absolutely loved it and I started seeing the future for myself." As a member of our newest class of Bunker Hill CC Electric Power Utility Technology program interns, Riley will complete training in overhead and underground electrical line work, as well as gas operations to hone her skills. The future is bright for Riley! Are you interested in exploring exciting and rewarding clean energy careers? Learn more about the EPUT program:👇
Earlier this year, we teamed up with Waterbury Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 1339 to provide training for more than 200 Waterbury firefighters so that they're prepared to safely respond to fires in underground electrical manholes. Our Community Relations and Electric Operations teams continued the collaboration in August at the Wolcott State Fire School, where firefighters tested fire suppression devices and a water-based foam used to put out fires in manholes.🚒
