When you walk through the doors of NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk, you’re welcomed by the calming sounds of live music performed by a local musician. Launched in summer 2025, our Musician Volunteer Program harnesses the healing power of music to help ease the stress and anxiety that often come with a hospital visit. It was created not just for patients, but for families, visitors, and even employees. "This program is a great example of how we're delivering that world-class care and meeting everyone exactly where they are during their healthcare experience," says Michael V. DeCicco, MBA, CPXP, CAVS, the hospital's director of Patient Experience and Culture. For pianist and volunteer Joseph Donza, the experience is just as meaningful. “There's a couple of times in my day when somebody will come up to me and say, 'That song just brought me back 30 years'," he says. "It makes me feel good." Watch below to hear more. Interested in making a difference? Learn more and apply to join our volunteer program: nyulangone.org/volunteer.

Dean and CEO Alec C. Kimmelman, MD, PhD, spoke at Semafor, which brings together a carefully curated community of senior builders, innovators, and changemakers—the architects of the new world economy—participating in a discussion on the future of healthcare and sharing how NYU Langone Health has been a pioneer in the field. Dean Kimmelman’s mainstage one-on-one interview with Paige Winfield Cunningham, a journalist at NOTUS, covered how NYU Langone has broken down silos, integrated many aspects of care, and incorporated artificial intelligence (AI) into its mission areas. “As an institution, we recognize that AI holds enormous promise and is already proving to be a powerful tool, but its greatest value will be supporting clinicians—not replacing them,” he said.
