What if healthcare could heal patients and the planet? At NYU Langone Health, the Clinical Sustainability Advisory Board is doing exactly that—turning this vision into action through system-wide initiatives that reduce waste, cut emissions, and reimagine more sustainable care delivery, helping set the standard for healthcare’s carbon footprint reduction nationwide. Through open forums, collaboration, and innovation, they’re creating space for clinicians at every level to challenge the status quo and build a more sustainable future for care—including implementing rigid plastic recycling across our operating rooms and, this year, launching the institution’s first-ever single-use device reprocessing contest, to name just a few initiatives. As part of this contest, and in partnership with Stryker, trees will be planted on NYU Langone’s behalf based on the volume of single-use device waste collected and diverted from landfills. #EarthDay #Sustainability #HealthcareInnovation

In this powerful TEDxNYU Langone Health talk, renowned gastroenterologist Mark Pochapin MD—the Sholtz-Leeds Professor of Medicine at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine—shares how patients and clinicians can face even the most difficult diagnoses with clarity, resilience, and hope. Drawing on deeply personal and clinical experiences, he makes a compelling case: hope isn’t wishful thinking—it’s essential to healing.
