As the Official Grocery Store of the Philadelphia 76ers, each December, our team joins theirs for our annual Holiday Hoopla event. Together, we surprised some most deserving kids of Making a Change with a very special experience, including one-day contracts, customized jerseys, on the court drills, fun with Franklin, 76ers-GIANT swag and gifts from their wish list. Now that’s the magic of the holiday season!
‘Tis the season for food! Festive boards are one of the season’s biggest trends and make a great addition to any holiday table. Below, some tips from The GIANT Company’s team of dietitians to help you create spreads that are sure to ‘wow’ friends and family! Charlotte Scheid, MEd, RD, LDN - For a pop of protein, add a sweet or savory hummus! Holly Doan, RD, LDN - For the best flavor, bring cheese to room temperature before serving your board. Crystal Joiner, MS, RD, LD - Put out an additional plate of crackers so you save space for more colorful items on your board. Joni Rampolla, MBA, RDN, LDN - Adding something sweet, such as chocolate covered nuts or dried fruits can bring a variety of tastes and textures to your board. Jena Wood MS, RD, LDN - Save yourself prep time with pre-washed veggies like sugar snap peas and carrot chips. Shanna Shultz, RD, LDN - Tuck in rosemary sprigs for evergreen flare! Please join us in congratulating Aaysha Noor, head of diversity, equity, and inclusion, who has been named a 2023 Pennsylvania Impact honoree by City & State PA. The annual list recognizes a select group of Pennsylvanians who, through their efforts, ensure communities across the commonwealth are becoming more equitable, sustainable, and prosperous. Since joining the company in 2020, Aaysha has been responsible for strategizing, developing, and implementing DEI initiatives internally and externally to build a culture of inclusion and belonging. She works collaboratively across functions to build and sustain an inclusive workplace, workforce, and marketplace to drive innovation and better serve the diverse needs of communities. With the help of her team, Aaysha also spearheads the company's Inclusion Council, team member DE&I training, and eight Business Resource Groups. In 2022, she organized the company's first Inclusion Week and DE&I Summit, where, guided by the theme, "Engage, Educate, Elevate," company leaders and guest speakers spoke about topics like inclusive leadership, fostering a culture of belonging in our workplaces and the communities we serve, and the importance of representation. In Today's Meet a Team Member, we're featuring Pharmacist Youstena Zaki. Tena, as she’s known to her colleagues and customers, has been a part of The GIANT Company team since 2012, when she joined as a pharmacy technician. But her passion pharmacy and caring for others began years before that, thanks to her aunt who was a pharmacist. For today's Meet a Team Member, we're getting to know Jayme Brafford, Center Store Sales Manager, supporting MARTIN'S stores in Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Jayme joined The GIANT Company in 1998 as a bagger. While he has held a variety of retail operations and merchandising positions since then, no matter the role, he's always kept the customer at the center of everything he does - essential in a people-centric business like ours.
