It's Meet a Team Member Monday, and today we're introducing Mike Smith, store manager at the GIANT in Thorndale, PA. Mike has almost 30 years of experience at The GIANT Company, with his career beginning in 1995 as a part-time produce team member. Growing through new opportunities, Mike had the pleasure of filling various roles before going into management in 1998 and ultimately reaching his dream role as a store manager in 2006. Mike attributes much of his success with the company to advice he received from his regional director, Dave L.. "He told me, 'Be quick to fail.' I stepped back, had a great conversation on that statement, and realized that the best learning experiences I've had, occurred after a failure. I used the result to drive me forward to be successful and coach my team better." Mike, you are proof of the difference good leadership makes. Thank you for continuing to live our values and serve our team and customers every day!
Just wanted to peep in and say Happy Easter! Now go search for baskets, dye eggs and gather with those you love most.
This Passover, may your celebrations, traditions, and of course, Seder, be blessed and surrounded by all those you love.
Over the past few weeks, our team members donated 3,000 hams across 13 food banks and pantries to help brighten the spring season and ensure families in need throughout our local communities can come together for a special meal. They also volunteered their time, sorting food and packing meal boxes. Full plates and full hearts. Thank you, team, for living our purpose and making a difference!
At The GIANT Company, we love showing our communities how much we care about them, and one of our favorite ways to do so is through volunteering. In 2021, our team members dedicated nearly 30,000 hours to eliminating hunger, healing our planet, and changing children's lives, truly making a difference in the towns and cities we proudly serve. During #NationalVolunteerMonth, we thank our team members and volunteers everywhere for donating their time and talent to connect families for a better future.
Today, The GIANT Company was recognized alongside our partner, Sharing Excess, by the Philadelphia Business Journal at its Faces of Philanthropy program. The annual awards celebrate philanthropic partnerships between for-profit and nonprofit organizations making a difference across Greater Philadelphia. "Sharing Excess is proud to partner with The GIANT Company to fight food insecurity in Philadelphia," added Executive Director and Founder Evan Ehlers. "When GIANT Heirloom Market first opened near Drexel's campus in 2019, we were excited that Drexel students finally had access to a market that truly cares about healthy, local, and affordable food options, just a few steps away from the heart of campus. We're pleased that our collaborative work to reduce food waste and serve communities in need has grown from a single store to multiple locations across the city. Partnerships like these are helping us grow our endeavor into a national movement."
Today, we're celebrating our very own Kimberly Biertempfel, who has been named a winner of a 40 Under 40 Award by Path to Purchase Institute! The inaugural awards program was designed to spotlight the next generation of leaders in omnichannel marketing, showcasing their contributions to the industry and their individual accomplishments. A part of the team since 2018, in her current role as Manager of E-Commerce CVP & Demand, Kim oversees the development of the e-commerce customer value proposition, partnering closely with teams across the organization to deliver the best customer experience. "A talented and thoughtful leader, Kim delivers tremendous impact for The GIANT Company with creativity and ingenuity," said Vice President of Brand Experience Matt Simon. "She collaborates with other leaders in the company to build holistic programs that enhance the GIANT Direct customer experience and deliver results. We're incredibly fortunate to have her on the team and appreciate her many contributions to the company and the customers we serve." Congratulations, Kim!
It's a new month and a new week – time to meet a new team member! Say Hello to Anthony Deni, store manager at the Lititz GIANT. Anthony began his career with the company in July 2019 and has been lifting up those around him ever since. In all that he does, Anthony leads by example, maintaining a positive attitude and being a role model for those around him. "My favorite part of my day-to-day job is seeing the growth of team members—taking the time to listen and develop a plan to nurture someone's career, then seeing them in action applying what they've learned is an amazing feeling," Anthony said. "My purpose is to help my team grow through new opportunities throughout their career. I meet with them individually throughout the year to learn about their personal and career goals so we can work towards them together." Anthony, you're proof that care grows here. Thank you for keeping our core values front and center and motivating your team to reach their full potential!
Wishing you and your family a blessed month of peace, health and prosperity, along with time to gather with those who matter most.
