It's the first day of #WomensHistoryMonth, a month dedicated to celebrating the contributions of women to history, culture, and society. At The GIANT Company, we're proud to celebrate the women leaders within our organization and empower them to learn, thrive, and grow in all aspects, professionally and personally. Women are an integral part of today's workplace and the entire grocery industry, and we embrace the diverse and innovative thinking they bring to the table. Join us throughout March as we honor the women who make our company and communities thrive.
Today's Meet a Team Member is once again dedicated to amplifying Black voices as we continue to celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth. Meet Quincy Thompson, assistant produce manager at the MARTIN'S in Winchester, Va. Quincy joined our team four years ago as a part-time team member, not having much experience working with fruit and vegetables. Knowing the best way to change that was through learning, he eagerly worked side-by-side with different managers to learn and grasp the department. Two years later, he was promoted to full-time and became the one sharing knowledge with new hires. In November 2021, Quincy was promoted to his current role, serving as second in command for all things produce. Reflecting on Black History Month, Quincy shared it has two meanings for him. "I see Black History Month as an accomplishment for Black lives throughout history, but also a warning. It is an accomplishment because we can celebrate how far we've come as a community, and it gives us an opportunity to promote Black lives.
The #GIANT2022ABM may have come to a close, but back at our stores, distribution center, e-comm warerooms, and support office, we are still feeling all of the feels. We're as grateful as ever, inspired by how far we've come, connected as can be, and ready to grow together this year. Our President, Nicholas Bertram, said it best: "Our purpose is timeless. Connecting families for a better future mattered a century ago and will matter a century from now. I believe the work we have done thus far has prepared us for this moment to really live out our purpose, and there's nothing we can't accomplish if we continue to do it together." Before signing off, we must also recognize an amazing trio of women who, with the help of our partners at JPL, take this meeting from vision to reality. Thank you April Mock, Tammy Kern, and Alli Hutchison, for giving your all and making this meeting one for the ages! #GrowthandGratitude #Connecting #ForTodaysTable
The GIANT Company's 2022 Annual Business Meeting is officially underway! We couldn’t be more excited to be together for some in-person connecting in Hershey, PA! Getting us started, team member Jena Bomboy and her daughter Reilly performed the National Anthem for us. After performing, Jena shared how incredibly important music is to her and her family, offering them a way to connect and create memories. Thank you, Jena, for sharing your talent and family with us! The #GIANT2022ABM is all about #GrowthandGratitude and #Connecting. Follow along all day as we look back on 2021, recognize and thank our extraordinary team members, and connect with one another as we set the course for the year ahead.
What an inspiring morning at the #GIANT2022ABM! Glennis Harris and Julie Morales led us on a look back of the past year, and what a year it was! From incredible omnichannel growth to making major strides in our efforts to be a sustainable retailer to creating opportunities for our team development to our unending work to live our purpose and connect families for a better future, it was only possible because we came together and connected as a team! Then, Matt Simon and Joanna Crishock took us through the state of retail grocery and the trends influencing the future of our industry, setting the course for a successful 2022! Bring it on; we are ready for it! One of our favorite parts of the morning? Meeting Jay Shetty. Best-selling author. Podcast host. Former Monk. Purpose Coach. Jay spent some time talking with us about how each day is filled with opportunities to positively impact the lives of those around us. Thank you, Jay! #GrowthandGratitude #Connecting #ForTodaysTable
During the afternoon of the #GIANT2022ABM, we took a deep dive into our purpose, connecting families for a better future, which drives everything we do. John Ruane spoke about how we’re connecting with like-minded supplier partners to serve our customers, and Matthew Lutcavage shared how valuable a unified, purpose-led team is and how we’re working to support our team. Then guest speaker Jeanette Bronée took the stage and blew us away! The global keynote and 2-time TEDx speaker challenged us to rethink how we think about self-care to connect, communicate and collaborate better together. Something Jeanette said that really resonated with the audience: “It's not how hard we work that makes us great. It's our humanity that makes us great and how we care better together." Tomorrow, we recap the #GIANT2022ABM awards ceremony! #GrowthandGratitude #Connecting #ForTodaysTable
It’s not all work at the #GIANT2022ABM – we have time to play, too! Our teams had a chance to connect as the worked through a pair of breakout challenges that highlighted our team and customer promises. Check out the fun! #GrowthandGratitude #Connecting #ForTodaysTable
Our #SupermarketEmployeeDay celebration continues as we thank Lauren Keeney! She is the training and development supervisor of our Perishable Distribution Center (PDC) in Carlisle, Pa. "Lauren is the first leader our new trainees meet when they begin their careers at the PDC. She provides a caring, inviting, and optimistic atmosphere, welcoming new team members and answering their questions. Her innovation and attention to detail have reinvigorated our training programs and established a strong pipeline of fresh talent into our distribution operations," Marlin Myers, director of distribution, commented. Other team members continue to sing Lauren's praises for setting the tone for a great work environment and embodying our purpose of connecting families for a better future. Thank you for being a dynamic, caring leader, Lauren!
It wouldn't be a #SupermarketEmployeeDay celebration without acknowledging our pharmacists and their critical role in keeping our communities healthy. Representing this talented bunch is Meghan Dixon, PharmD, pharmacy manager at the GIANT on Linden Street in Bethlehem, Pa. Meghan is a health advocate who enjoys connecting with community members at work, vaccination clinics, and beyond. Leading with empathy, Meghan counsels individuals on health and medication matters, establishing trust and building relationships with them, showing she's in their corner! In addition to prioritizing her connections with patients, Meghan also prioritizes long-lasting friendships with her team, and she tries to show her gratitude for them regularly. "I am truly amazed by the resilience of my coworkers to really come together as a team and help each other out even during trying times. I'm grateful for the team I get to work with each day," said Meghan.
As #SupermarketEmployeeDay winds down, please help us express our appreciation for Tom Gana, store manager at our GIANT Heirloom Market in the Northern Liberties neighborhood of Philadelphia. A team member for almost 20 years, Tom is well-known for his thoughtful leadership style and how he continuously works to motivate and support his team. When we asked why that was so important to him, he shared he is deeply inspired by those who mentored him early in his career. "I started as a part-time bakery team member and worked my way to store manager, but I didn't do it alone. I met my beautiful wife Andrea at GIANT and have been happily married for 11 years. She is my biggest supporter," Tom stated. "There were many others who saw something in me and helped me become successful from mentoring me to picking up the phone to answer a question; I always had people in my corner."
