Join us as we continue celebrating our team members on #SupermarketEmployeeDay and help us say thanks to Amanda Arroyo. Amanda is an inventory control lead for GIANT Direct at our Lancaster, Pa. e-commerce center. We are grateful for Amanda's strong sense of teamwork, especially in recent years as our e-commerce services continue to expand. "We know we are a part of something bigger, and we all have a part to play. It can be challenging at times, but knowing that people are getting food and connecting with their families over a meal is worth it all," Amanda said. Amanda's dedication to her team is on display daily as she encourages everyone to do their part, from the stockers to the departments to the selectors and drivers. No matter how high the demand, she is always willing to help out in any way she can. Here's a little fun fact about Amanda: in 2020, she was featured in a CNBC special report about the surge in online grocery shopping during the pandemic! You're a star, Amanda, in more ways than one!
As we continue our celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth, we're dedicating today's Meet a Team Member to Tyresha Warren, store employment associate at our GIANT in Blue Bell, Pa. Tyresha has been a part of the team since last October, starting as a GIANT Direct shopper. A skilled shopper who treats the orders she's shopping for as if they were her own, she quickly became the backup lead for the department, learning everything that goes into making the department tick. It wasn't long after that Tyresha was promoted to her current position, where she has oversight of all the store's hiring and learning needs. Black History Month has always been important to Tyresha, and she's proud to work for a company that celebrates the significance of Black culture alongside her. To her, Black History Month is "about the success of African Americans journey from the past to the future, owning businesses, having opportunities in the workplace, bringing our own diverse ideas to the table, in the pursuit of our American happiness."
At The GIANT Company, we embrace diversity and promote inclusion every day to build an equitable future. Ensuring supplier diversity is just one of the ways we actively seek to bridge the gap. In honor of #BlackHistoryMonth, meet Partake, a Black-owned business we're proud to be partnering with as we look for new ways to help our customers put their dollars where they make a difference. Based near NYC, Partake was founded by Denise Woodard after her daughter, Vivienne, was diagnosed with severe food allergies as an infant, and healthy, delicious snacks were hard to find. As a Black female CEO & founder, Denise is passionate about raising awareness of Black and female entrepreneurship and increasing opportunity for women and people of color in the food industry. In addition to establishing their Black Futures in Food and Beverage fellowship program, Denise is dedicated to mentoring up-and-coming leaders and students.
Together is the best way to make a difference. That's why we're teaming up with our supplier partners for the Millions of Meals Challenge to eliminate hunger in the communities we serve. From now through March 3, buy $15 or more of participating items at any GIANT or MARTIN'S store or online, receive $5 off instantly at checkout, and we'll donate $10 to Feeding America, with the hope of providing four million meals in 2022. Our celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth continues today as we meet team member Aaron Hall, assistant store manager of customer experience at our King of Prussia GIANT. Aaron grew up with The GIANT Company. His career began in 2012 when he joined the team as a service associate. Working his way through high school and college, he helped open the Flourtown, Pa., store before moving into the fresh department, where he continued to grow through new opportunities before becoming meat manager. We asked Aaron to tell us what Black History Month means to him, and he shared, “To me, Black History Month is about recognizing where we have come from and how much we have grown and adapted in our society. It motivates me to make a future where we stop looking at the past and pay attention to the present and future.” Continued Aaron, “As a young adult, I didn’t see many people like me in leadership roles. I never thought that I would have the opportunity to be a major part of store operations. Now, people that may have had the same thoughts see that it is possible. They see that they have a chance
Diversity and representation matter. Every day, all the time. In honor of #BlackHistoryMonth, we're featuring a few of the Black-owned businesses that are bringing new ideas – and great products – to today's table. The mission of Patti's Good Life is "To live with love and cook with soul," and Patti LaBelle takes it seriously. She created Patti's Good Life, a line of delicious food, beverages, and condiments along with beautiful everyday housewares, to celebrate family, friends, fun, and all good things. Simply put, Patti's recipes are created with family meals in mind, from comfort foods and southern sides to desserts that beg everyone to gather around.
At The GIANT Company, we embrace the unique talents and celebrate the differences of our team members, customers, suppliers, and community partners as part of our promise to be an inclusive place to work and shop. Our work is never done, but we're proud of how far we've come and know we're on the right track. Today, The Human Rights Campaign Foundation released its #CEI2022 report, and for the fourth consecutive year, we received a perfect score in #LGBTQ workplace equality. "Each and every team member makes us the brand that we are, and this distinction again highlights our ongoing commitment to creating a workplace culture of inclusion and belonging," said Matthew Lutcavage, vice president of team experience, The GIANT Company. "We are real people serving real people, which is why at The GIANT Company everyone is respected, valued, heard, and welcomed just the way we are."
Our Senior Vice President of Omnichannel Merchandising John Ruane sat down with Grocery Dive's Catherine Douglas M. to talk all things plant-based. As part of its "On Special" series, the piece spotlights how The GIANT Company is tapping into plant-based as part of our efforts to help customers eat well and live healthier, the trends we're seeing, and his thoughts on what the future holds for the growing category.
Bear-y exciting news out of Hershey, PA! Last night's GIANT #TeddyBearToss at the Hershey Bears game was record-breaking, with 52,341 teddy bears and stuffed animals tossed by fans after the team's first goal of the game. As part of the team's #HersheyBearsCares initiative, the collected stuffed animals will be donated to 25 local charities, including Boys & Girls Club of Harrisburg, Autism Society Greater Harrisburg Area, and Children's Miracle Network Hershey. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of this world-famous event and the extension of our long-standing partnership with Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company announced earlier in the week, we also donated $20,000 to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to help feed our neighbors in need. "In all that it does, The GIANT Company works to bring families together and create memories," said Matt Simon, vice president of brand experience, The GIANT Company. "We're proud to partner with the Hershey Bears, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company, and the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to #makeadifference in our community."
It's Monday - time to meet a team member! Say hello to Cynthia Kirol, store manager of the GIANT in Selinsgrove, PA. Cynthia began her career with The GIANT Company in 2016 as an assistant store manager of customer experience and grew through hard work and new opportunities. She describes herself as a purposeful leader who loves engaging with team members and customers. "My purpose is to be the best version of myself and use my positivity to inspire the life of every person that I meet by smiling, radiating happiness, and not sweating the small things." Cynthia finds our brand platform, #ForTodaysTable, especially meaningful because it encourages her to connect with her own family. She is a firm believer that the world is a better place when we can gather around the table for dinner. "My husband works a lot of hours, and with our ever-changing schedule, having an hour to spend each evening with my husband and two young children to indulge in conversation, laughter, and love means the world to me." Thank you, Cynthia, for inspiring your team and others around you!
