Today, we're celebrating Rebecca Lupfer for being named a 2021 40 Under 40 honoree by the Central Penn Business Journal. The annual award recognizes professionals 40 and younger for their contributions in making Central Pennsylvania a great place to work and live. Winners were selected based on professional accomplishments, community service, and commitment to inspiring change. As Vice President of Center Store Merchandising at The GIANT Company, Rebecca oversees all aspects of center store merchandising. Each day, she leads a team of talented and passionate merchants who work to bring our purpose of connecting families for a better future to life across our store shelves. Her leadership was essential during the pandemic, as she and her team worked around the clock to get products in stores and into customers' hands. Her commitment to service doesn't stop there. She is the co-chair of our women's business resource group, LINC, centered around professional and personal development opportunities, and is also on the board of directors for Neighbors Helping Neighbors Food Bank serving
At The GIANT Company, we believe that food shouldn't be an impossible choice. While we work 365 days a year to eliminate hunger in our communities, today, as Hunger Action Month gets underway, we're embarking on a special month-long effort to help local food banks and pantries provide meals to families facing food insecurity. From donating our time, food, and dollars, we're taking action to fill empty plates, but we can't do it alone. This September, for every new follower of our company LinkedIn page and each like and share of the post below, we'll donate $10, which helps provide 100 meals to Feeding America, up to 50,000 meals. Together, we can make a difference and ensure all families can gather around the table and enjoy a meal together.
Congratulations to our very own Elizabeth Dang, who was recently named a 2021 “Woman to Watch” by Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in its Women in STEM Awards. Now in its third year, the program recognizes women who have made significant contributions to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields, as it works to encourage girls across Central Pennsylvania to consider careers in STEM. Currently, women account for only 27% of STEM workers in the United States. A graduate of West Virginia University with degrees in Industrial Engineering and Chinese Studies, in her role as Labor Manager, Elizabeth and her team work to develop efficiencies across store operations, drawing on STEM every day. Her advice for girls considering a career in STEM fields? “Don’t let common misconceptions be the deciding factor of your future. I never thought I’d be an engineer because I didn’t like to build things. I didn’t realize there were so many different sectors of engineering. Give yourself the opportunity to try new things, and a allow yourself to develop your own opinion.

It's that time again! Say hello to this week's Meet a Team Member Monday, Dionis mateo-pujols. Dionis joined The GIANT Company in 2019 as an Assistant Store Manager of Fresh. He was soon promoted to Store Manager and has brought his positive attitude and servant leadership style to the table ever since. Currently, Dionis is the store manager of our GIANT store location in Whitehall, PA. When we asked Dionis what has helped him become a successful leader, he didn't need to think about it. He quickly pointed to his team and how they lift each other up every day, especially through trying times. "My job is to create an environment where my team members can learn, have fun, and grow while fostering a pleasant atmosphere for the customers in the community to shop. By far, the best memory I have with GIANT is during the peak of the pandemic, seeing the team come together with a passion to serve our customers. There were no deli, grocery, or bakery teams; we were all ONE Team sharing ONE goal; to connect families for a better future."
From Day One to Day Done. It seems like just yesterday, we were welcoming our 2021 Interns to The GIANT Company, and here we are on Graduation Day, celebrating their successful completion of our internship program. The last 11 weeks flew by in the blink of an eye, but we know that the experiences, learnings, and relationships from your time with us will stay with you always. To our interns, we couldn't be more grateful and proud of your contributions to our team, business, and communities this summer, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for you.
