Local season is here! We love this time of year because our stores are filled with fresh from the farm corn, tomatoes, squash, peaches, peppers, and more. Check out one of the amazing displays our team members have built highlighting this summer’s harvest. “What’s really great about the displays is the spotlight they shine on local farms and the families who tend to them and feed their community. At The GIANT Company, we are proud to partner with more than 100 local farmers and growers and are glad to make it easier for our customers to support them, too,” said Chris Keetch, director of produce and floral. “Every local purchase helps keep farms, families, and communities growing, so when you buy local, you can feel good about your purchase and the difference you’re making.” Learn more about how we’re supporting local cheesemakers, bakers, brewers, and makers year-round at https://lnkd.in/dHs9kEWi.

Say hello to Christopher Hunter, today’s Meet a Team Member spotlight! A proud team member for almost 20 years, Chris started his journey with The GIANT Company in 2003 as a front-end associate. After moving through the store to our Perishable Distribution Center, he ultimately landed in our support office, where he is a DSD Category Analyst with our Merchandising team. Innovation and fresh ideas are what Chris enjoys most about his daily duties, specifically finding a unique item that stands out in the ever-changing environment of grocery. “ When searching for new products, Chris looks to the members of his community to help inspire him. “I am proud to be a part of the food supply chain in our country. I have always felt that my personal purpose is to bring the best possible food product at the fairest prices to the communities we serve. Thank you, Chris, for your innovation and fresh ideas and for helping make our communities healthier and happy.

Today, we are spotlighting Sylvia Rosa-Ortiz. Sylvia joined The GIANT Company in 2015 as a district human resource business partner and has been thriving ever since! Coming into grocery retail from a completely different industry may be challenging for some, but Sylvia jumped right in and has enjoyed learning about all areas of the business. As a human resource business partner, she builds relationships with team members daily and helps them grow through new opportunities within the company. “My favorite part of my role is interacting with team members in the stores. Listening to their stories and having a laugh with them is what truly makes me happy. One of her daily goals has always been to create an environment full of teamwork, care, and a little humor. “Every day, I try to impact someone’s life; it can be a supportive word, a smile, or as simple as listening. Having this mindset allows me to create better communication and understanding between managers and team members. Sylvia, thank you for always sharing a smile and lending an ear -you’re making a difference in many lives.
Changing children's lives is near and dear to our hearts and extends well beyond our store walls. As part of our support of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, our team members recently assembled care packages for kids being cared for at their local CMN Hospital. More than 500 bags filled with coloring books, games, and heartfelt cards were delivered to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Geisinger Janet Weis Children's Hospital, and Penn State Health Children's Hospital. As you can tell, our team members were more than happy to lend a helping hand - they can't wait to do it again!
