Congratulations to Regional Director Steve Harfield, who today was named the Living Our Values award winner by Ahold Delhaize as a part of its annual Leadership Awards. Steve, who won The GIANT Company’s President’s Award in March, was recognized for consistently embodying and leading with our shared values of Courage, Integrity, Teamwork, Care, and Humor. While guiding his teams , Steve inspired them to achieve significant success in performance, team engagement, and customer satisfaction. Fellow team members know Steve as a proud husband, father, grandfather, caretaker, and a humble yet inspirational Regional Director in the Carlisle and Hagerstown markets. Throughout 2020, his top priority was to provide his team with a source of stability and safety from the pandemic while serving as the calming voice and listening ear for his team, peers, and executives alike. We are so proud of Steve and believe he has proven that in good times and bad, despite hardships and challenges, living our values results in stronger teams, a stronger brand, and a stronger world.
Here you go! We linked to a newspaper story -- not sure if that works on Glassdoor, but I included the link and photo separately. Thanks! Today, we announced plans for four new stores and 700 jobs in Philadelphia, accelerating our omnichannel growth in the city. This expansion across our family of brands exemplifies our strategy in action in a city we're proud to call our second home. Philly families have wholeheartedly embraced GIANT, GIANT Heirloom Market, and GIANT Direct, and that has only fueled our team to dream bigger and more boldly as we shape our plans for tomorrow. Say hello to Jennifer Scott, MBA! Jennifer joined our Merchandising team in 2012 as a sourcing manager. After 18 months of shadowing other team members, working hard, and gaining valuable knowledge, she achieved her dream of being a category manager. Jennifer is now responsible for creating a comprehensive strategy for breakfast and baking products. Jennifer is always thinking about the families she serves. “As a mother of two children that are active in sports, I know it’s not always easy to eat at the table. My oldest daughter cannot drink milk and always ate her cereal in a bag; when cereal manufacturers came out with giant-sized dry cereal in a pouch, I thought about the convenience this would offer many families eating on the go. Added Jennifer, “Putting the customer at the heart of all I do is so important to me. In my role, this means making sure all items in my category are priced and offering the best assortment to keep the customer coming back.” Thank you, Jennifer, for living our purpose and connecting families for a better future!
Please join us in congratulating Allan Noddle, former President of The GIANT Company, who was honored yesterday with the 2020-21 Lifetime Achievement Award from his alma mater, the University of Nebraska. The award honors recipients for their exemplary leadership, in addition to how they gave back through the time, energy, and guidance they provided throughout their careers. Allan served as President of GIANT starting in 1988, the year we opened our 50th store. He became the face of the brand through local radio and television campaigns and continues to be a well-respected and active figure in the grocery retail industry today. Congratulations, Allan!
What an inspiring week! From park clean-ups and tree plantings to seed ball making, sapling giveaways, educational events, and more, it's easy to see how every day can be Earth Day. When it comes to taking care of the environment, there are no small actions, as every effort taken adds up and helps us lessen our environmental footprint. Learn more about how we're creating greener tomorrows for families at https://lnkd.in/dCT4AET. Thanks to our team members, customers, and partners for joining us on our journey to heal the planet. Together, we are making a difference.
Healing our planet adds up to a better future for everyone. It's how we live our purpose and make a difference as far and wide as we can. See how at The GIANT Company, every day is Earth Day. L
Our countdown to Earth Day continues today with the announcement of a new grant program designed to support projects that build on environmental stewardship by connecting families with community green spaces. “Our latest grant program combines two of The GIANT Company’s key values – healing our planet and connecting families,” said Jessica Printy Groves, manager of social impact. “By partnering with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, we can help inspire action in our local communities to increase access to and improve community green spaces and support environmental restoration efforts. No matter how big or how small, we can’t wait for these projects to come to life, make a difference for our planet and provide families an opportunity to get out and enjoy the outdoors together.”
As we countdown to Earth Day, today's Meet A Team Member Monday highlights John Primus, whose passion for the environment inspires us every day! Joining our bakery team at 16 years old, John has enjoyed growing through new opportunities at The GIANT Company. He is now the assistant store manager of fresh, overseeing all perishable departments at GIANT in Norristown, PA, so it's no wonder our work to heal the planet resonates with John. "I am so passionate about healing the planet because it takes little to no effort to do so. By reusing, donating, and recycling, we can really make a difference and make the world a better place. When asked if he had any advice for someone trying to reduce their environmental footprint, John said, "The advice I give to everyone is to simply start looking for small changes at home. Are you recycling that toilet paper roll, or is it going in the trash? The plastic container that poultry comes in, are you rinsing it out and recycling? These are few simple things that can help the environment."
