Say hello to Danny Laviola, category manager of service and specialty deli! Dan’s grocery career spans more than 40 years, and fortunately, most recently leading a best-in-class deli program. From daily sales reviews and working with supplier partners to be first to market on trends to pivoting the category’s way through the pandemic, there’s not much that he doesn’t love about his job. Says Dan, “My personal purpose from now until retirement is to ensure that my team and my customers - the stores - know everything I know. I do this by working side by side with them, educating them on the business, ultimately helping them think about their career journey.” When asked about the best career advice he’s ever received and gives out today, it’s as simple as four words: what, why, when, and how. “Share what the plan is, why it needs to be done, how it needs to be done and when. Clearly communicating this will help the team achieve success and grow the business.” Dan, thank you for sharing your expertise. There’s no doubt your team will be your legacy and make you proud!
Our hearts are bear-y full! Yesterday, during the GIANT Drive-Thru Teddy Bear Toss, more than 31,000 stuffed animals were tossed during the annual event, as well as a truck full of non-perishable food for the Central PA Food Bank. We're proud to partner with the #Hershey Bears and Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company to #makeadifference in our community. Thanks to everyone who donated a stuffed animal or food!
Exciting news! We're now accepting applications for our 2021 Summer Internship Program. If you're Ana Luiza Clever Galvao and looking to grow through new opportunities, don't delay in checking out the program! "I had the pleasure of being a Human Resources Intern at The GIANT Company in the summer of 2020. I worked closely with the Diversity and Inclusion team on different projects to propose initiatives and take action against racial injustice. My experience allowed me to grow and develop a range of skills, from leadership and critical thinking to data analysis and problem-solving. In November, I participated in the Purdue HR Case Competition as part of Penn State's Undergraduate team. We were given a case study regarding Diversity and Inclusion and asked to develop a recommendation plan. I was able to put my experience into practice - my internship had a significant impact on my performance and success at the competition and in my classes and personal projects. For our first Meet a Team Member Monday of 2021, we're introducing Joanna Crishock, director of strategy and innovation. A self-described change agent with a thirst for new challenges, Joanna was essential to the launch of #ForTodaysTable. One of her favorite moments and proudest professional accomplishments, Joanna says, "I grew up in consumer insights, but always had a passion for strategy and bringing insights to life, so I have been honored to play a role in bringing our groundbreaking new strategy to life." A mom of two young daughters, Joanna can relate to customers who are looking for a little help in pulling together a meal for their family. "My daughter always wanted a PB&J sandwich for lunch but couldn't due to school's nut-free considerations. I started thinking about how GIANT could help. I talked to the team, and that's how the idea for Nature's Promise, Nut-Free, Crust less Sandwiches was born. Strategist, innovator, sandwich dilemma solver, and all-around awesome team member, Joanna, thanks for showing care and courage in all that you do for our company and customer

We’re excited to be expanding our International Management Trainee Program, a three-year program designed to offer an unmatched immersive retail management experience. But don’t just take our word for it, hear from the program’s first participant, David Brantley, a Shippensburg University graduate and soon to be MBA student at West Chester University. David has been busy traveling stores and meeting team members, working closely with the Strategy and Innovation team to build strategic business plans. After this rotation, he’ll spend his second year with a different functional area before heading abroad for his third year with one of Ahold Delhaize’s international brands. Said David, “Initially, I was hesitant that this opportunity seemed too good to be true, but it really is a once in a lifetime opportunity that offers an incredible experience. To know that this is a program the company is building to develop and grow the future leaders in the brand and industry both inspires and energizes me to continue to bring my best self to work every day.” To learn more: https://lnkd.in/ddn5hQ
