For today's Meet a Team Member Monday, we're shining a light on Store Manager Clarence (Shakeel) Schley. Clarence is the real deal and brings his authentic self to work every day, his energy brightening the day for his team and customers. He joined our team in 2018 with more than 25 years of retail experience under his belt – try and find an area of the retail business he doesn't know! As the Langhorne store leader, chief among his priorities are creating and sustaining a culture that resonates with everyone who walks through the doors and continuous learning with and from his team. "One of my proudest GIANT moments came when a customer stopped me and said, 'I would work for you. I'm retired, but I've worked in retail for many years. I've observed you working with your team here. I see you manage them and have seen you on your knees on the floor working as well,'" said Clarence. Working through the pandemic only emphasized the value of teamwork to Clarence, adding, "In retail grocery and life, one will NEVER be able to man a ship without crewmates."

It's Black History Month, and there's never been a better time to do better. Learn how we're taking real action to make real change:
Earlier this week, our Hatboro, PA GIANT team surprised the Hatboro-Horsham School District with a $10,000 donation as part of our Feeding School Kids initiative. The money will support the district's drive-thru meal program, which provides local students with five days worth of healthy breakfasts and lunches. Addressing food insecurity among students builds on our long history of supporting both schools and local hunger relief efforts, but we couldn't do it alone. Thank you to all of our customers who have donated; you're making a difference and helping connect families for a better future. And the best part, there's still a month left in our campaign and our company match to follow!
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation released its #CEI2021 report today and for the third year in a row, The GIANT Company has received a perfect score in #LGBTQ workplace equality. “Our team members are at the front and center of everything that we do, which is why we support each team member fully and uniquely,” said Matthew Lutcavage, vice president of human resources, The GIANT Company. “Guided by our ‘Be You’ team promise, we are committed to creating a growing culture of inclusion and belonging across our organization. We are grateful for this distinction from and for our team who has made The GIANT Company a place where everyone – team members, supplier and community partners and customers alike – is respected, valued, heard and welcomed just the way they are.”
Today, we were awarded a 2020 Gold Plate Award by the FMI- The Food Industry Association in the COVID-19 Heroes category. A new category for the annual awards program, it recognizes charitable programs that help families share meals together during the pandemic. “The GIANT Company is fiercely committed to our purpose of connecting families for a better future; it drives all we do and is our reason for being,” said The GIANT Company President Nicholas Bertram. “I want to thank our more than 35,000 team members who bring our purpose to life each day, especially over the past year. They are the heart of our company and the communities they care for, and it is an honor to have their ongoing efforts recognized by the FMI Foundation as a best practice among the nation’s food retailers.” Congratulations to all of our team members for this amazing honor!
