Yesterday, our teams near and far celebrated International Women's Day and the women of The GIANT Company - and celebrate they did! From team celebrations and sharing stories of strong and inspiring women to a special virtual event featuring diversity, equity, and inclusion expert Jennifer Brown (she/her/hers), it was an incredibly special day. And while Women's Day 2021 may have come to a close, guided by our team promise of Be You, we will continue to #ChoosetoChallenge and remain committed to helping each other learn, grow, and thrive professionally and personally.
It has been a great day of learning and celebration, both in our stores and virtually with our support office. Our journey towards inclusion continues as we Choose To Challenge gender bias and inequality.
It's International Women's' Day, so for today's Meet a Team Member Monday, we're celebrating Ashlee Scavazzo, our Bethlehem, PA, GIANT store manager. A team member for nearly 20 years, Ashlee defines our team promise of growing through new opportunities. And while she was promoted to her current role in 2019, Ashlee has consistently demonstrated a keen business sense and exceptional leadership skills. Results-driven, highly motivated, an active leader in her community, and a mentor to her entire team, it's no surprise that the Lehigh Valley Business selected Ashlee as a 2021 Woman of Influence honoree. "It is extremely humbling to be included with such talented and amazing other women in the Lehigh Valley," said Ashlee. "To consider that people recognize the efforts of myself and my team is an absolutely amazing feeling. Realizing that what I do every day would stand out from others is incredibly rewarding and empowers me to share my drive with other women." Riverwalk's opening day is fast approaching, so there's no better time to get to know the manager of our Philadelphia flagship store, Jessica Fischer! A veteran of the industry and the company, Jessica joined the team in 1999 as a part-time cashier. Fueled by her love of people and a commitment to grow. Jessica learned every aspect of the business and became a manager in 2017. She opened our new Warrington, PA store in 2019 and most recently served as manager of our GIANT Heirloom Market in University City. When asked how it feels to be the manager of the store everyone is talking about, Jessica shared, "To be the manager opening Riverwalk is an honor. I am so excited to work with a new team, build relationships with our neighbors, and serve such a great community. Everyone's efforts are really coming together. Riverwalk is so special, from its look and amenities to its support of so many local businesses. I can't wait to see this gem truly shine!" Congratulations, Jessica!
