With our new store in Swatara Township set to open one week from today, it's time to introduce the store manager, Sherry Beitler! Sherry's been a part of our team for more than 30 years, starting in the deli. She continued to experience all areas of the business and was named store manager in 2007. Sherry has loved her long career with the company, which she says has granted her professional and personal fulfillment, affording her the balance to be a wife and mom. Sherry and her team can hardly wait for opening day. "Working in the retail food industry puts us right in the center of a family's table. It's humbling to think about how our work influences so many and is a huge part of making memories and a difference in this world. That's what For Today's Table is about: people gathering together for a time of fellowship, whether it be around the dining room table, a conference room table, or a ping pong table. It's about the people and the time you're spending with them."

Creamy, savory, and sweet, with notes of cinnamon, chocolate, coffee, and honey, this cheese is truly a holiday gift. Best of all, just like the two cheeses that came before it, 100% of the milk used to make Mad Elf Beer Cheese comes from Pennsylvania dairy farms, helping them survive and thrive. Local dairies, local beer, local good! Read more in the PennWatch story below and be sure to try Mad Elf Beer Cheese before it’s gone!
We're thrilled to celebrate our friend, Ellen Yin, founder and co-owner of High Street Hospitality Group, who was named a 2020 Woman of Distinction by The Philadelphia Business Journal today. The annual program honors women in the business community who are blazing a trail in their respective businesses, are respected for accomplishments within their industries, give back to the community, and are sought out as respected advisors and mentors within their field of influence. We've gotten to know Ellen over the past few years, as her bakery, High Street on Market, supplies our GIANT Heirloom Market stores with the most delicious bread, and we can't think of someone more deserving than her. Congratulations, Ellen!
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM), today, we’re meeting Juan Manuel Pinzon, MBA, floral category analyst for The GIANT Company. Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Juan grew up in a small town, where he met people of different socio-cultural backgrounds. Juan credits his diverse upbringing with helping him relate and interact effectively with people throughout his career. After graduating with a degree in Agroindustrial Engineering, Juan began working at a flower exporting company where he learned every aspect of the business from growing, harvesting, exporting, and distribution. Without knowing it at the time, this experience began his 20-plus year career in the floral industry. When asked about what HHM meant to him, it comes down to food and family. Says Juan, “It’s the celebration of flavors, traditions and family recipes. I had the privilege of growing up experiencing new and different flavors and regional foods, which opened my mind. If you ever walk by a Hispanic house and new flavors reach your senses, I encourage you to knock on that door; they will welcome you.
In celebration of National Family Day, our store teams had some fun surprising their customers with special For Today’s Table picnic blankets, with the hope of making it a bit easier for families to take a moment, share a meal and make memories. Beyond being fun, it was a great way to thank and celebrate the families who choose us - we can’t wait to do it again!
As the calendar flips to October, it's time to celebrate American Pharmacists Month and honor our talented team of more than 350 expert pharmacists! As one of the most accessible healthcare professionals in the community, each day and especially over the past several months, they go above and beyond to deliver on our purpose of connecting families for a better future. Please join us in thanking our pharmacists for the amazing care they provide to our customers and for all they do to keep our communities healthy and well!
Wondering who the voice behind our For Today’s Table TV campaign is? Well, it just so happens to be one of our own team members, Hannah Reece, from our store in Cleona, Pa. In celebration of National Family Day on September 26th, today we're announcing a new partnership with the iconic Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia to reimagine its beloved market exhibit! Joining forces with this world-class children's museum comes at the perfect time as we are embarking on our next chapter, symbolized by For Today’s Table, and continuing our growth in the city. As part of our purpose to connect families for a better future, we're donating $1.2 million to the museum's "Creating the Future of Play" campaign, designed to support the institution as it welcomes families back in 2021. The market will promote healthy eating and the significance of food in family and cultural celebrations, key values we share with the museum. Together, we'll redesign this treasured exhibit so families can learn, play, and connect in a fresh new way.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly half of all car seats are installed incorrectly. To help keep kids safe on the road, we're teaming up with Children's Miracle Network Hershey and Penn State Health Children's Hospital to expand the Pediatric Trauma and Injury Prevention Program. Together, we'll work to educate families on the correct use of car seats, booster seats, and seat belts and bring free safety checks to communities across Central Pennsylvania. Yesterday, to mark Child Passenger Safety Week, we hosted a car seat safety checkpoint at our Harrisburg Kline Village store, providing free car seats to nine families and safety checks to several more.
