Authentic. Personal. Real. That's how our Chief Marketing Officer Matt Simon describes the company's new TV advertising campaign. "I like to think of it as more than a TV campaign. It's really about what our purpose is, why GIANT exists," said Simon. Connecting families for a better future and our purpose is so personal and emotional to our team and our company that we felt it was important to find the right way to express it.? When the pandemic brought his business to a halt, local businessman Gary G. turned his attention to helping his community. A pay-it-forward kind of guy, each week, he purchases more than 100 containers of milk and leaves it in parks for families in need to take - no questions asked. Thank you, Gary, for being a hometown hero and for showing that sometimes, the smallest gestures have the biggest impact. And thanks to store manager Craig Forbes and the team at our Walnut Bottom Road store in Carlisle for helping Gary make a difference!
We’ve always prided ourselves on being a company that develops our team members so they can be ready when an opportunity comes, and we’re thrilled to add to that legacy by promoting Sherry Miller to Director of Operations! Sherry has been a valued member of The GIANT Company team for nearly 26 years. Working her way up from Cashier and Cash Office Associate, she was named Store Manager in 2012 and was promoted to Human Resources Business Partner in 2019. In her new role, she’ll oversee the operations of 19 stores in suburban Philadelphia and work with her team to connect families for a better future. We’re so proud of you, Sherry, and can’t wait to see you soar to new heights! Congratulations!
As the pandemic continues to impact small businesses, we've been making every effort to support our local restaurants because we know that for these businesses and their employees, every meal served makes a difference. Once a week, our stores have been ordering food from local pizzerias, delis, diners, and restaurants to thank hardworking team members. To date, we’ve proudly supported 350 restaurants, providing 93,000 meals for our team members, and investing more $650,000 into our local economies. Please join us in supporting local restaurants; with every order, you’ll be helping your neighbors and your community.
Hats off to the #classof2020 and an extra special congratulations to our graduating team members for a job (or two) well done!
Can you imagine a world without broccoli, strawberries or tomatoes? Neither can we! Pollinators like bees play an essential role in getting these and so many of our favorite foods on the table. Unfortunately, bee populations have been declining for more than three decades and if that continues, many of the foods we love could be at risk. We believe healing the planet starts at home, so creating a seven-acre pollinator-friendly solar field at our headquarters was a natural first step for us to help save bees. As the field matures, its more than one million plants will serve as a food source for pollinators, who will, in turn, pollinate local farm fields. Special thanks to Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Deputy Secretary Cheryl Cook for helping us kick off #NationalPollinatorWeek by unveiling our field, complete with hives and 20,000 bees.
