She treated me with kindness, dignity, and respect. She was always warm and caring. She made all the difference in my stay at Valley. She took her time with me and explained all the procedures to ease my fears. She was gentle and thorough. I believe my healing is greatly due to her expertise. Valley is pleased to recognize two Leaders of the Quarter, Kim Petram, Director, Case Management, and Trevor Lanz, Assistant Nurse Manager, General Medicine. While these two leaders have different approaches to many things in their off-work hours, they bring their quest for excellence and achievement to their professional lives to benefit the whole Valley community. Fun fact to note about each of them is how differently they approach mountains in their off hours. Kim is a former ski racer and currently serves as a certified ski instructor who tackles the toughest routes down a mountain, while Trevor has focused on hiking challenging routes up mountains, including to the base camp of Mt. Everest. Thank you to both Kim and Trevor for their excellent leadership and for being integral to the Valley team!

The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a high level of excellence in the community health care field. Hiroshi joined the International Community Health Services organization in 1996 as a consumer board member, followed by 10 years as board president. He continues to serve to this day in ICHS leadership roles, and on boards and committees of NACHC, Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations, and other organizations dedicated to expanding health care access. "Award of Excellence recipients represent the best and brightest voices of the Community Health Center Movement. We would not be where we are today without their visionary leadership and dedication to providing quality health care to all, regardless of ability to pay," said Rachel A. "Dawn is always there, ready to help, hands on, learning, teaching, going the extra mile. I am new to Valley and can say with complete confidence she is one of our greatest assets. I've never had the pleasure of working with someone so capable, helpful, positive and team oriented. Today she helped patients who had found themselves in the employee elevator get to where they need to go, not by showing but by walking. As I am new, I ask many questions, she is always willing to help, teach or learn with me together. Dawn helps keep our environment clean through communication with housekeeping and borrowing necessary equipment so that we can keep our space clean. She lifts everyone up around her and requires excellence from herself and all those around her. "
