This ensures we are giving all stroke patients at Valley the best evidence-based care. The time studies and pictograms Jennifer distributes have allowed us to do constant process improvement and achieve the American Heart and Stroke Association Get with the Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Elite Award. Jennifer wears multiple hats. She is responsible for timely data abstractions for stroke, STEMI, and sepsis programs. Jennifer consistently asks how she can be of help." Igniting Interest in Healthcare Careers, Valley Hosts Rainier High Students! Thanks to the participation of many Valley Medical Center departments, 30 sophomores from Rainier High School in the Highline School District were able to experience a range of careers in healthcare at Valley on Thursday, Jan. 11. Using hands-on presentations, tours and demos, the goal was to inspire the 15 and 16-year old students to consider a professional health sciences career path. Students were able to see and experience a mock appendectomy with a student patient and gummy worm "appendix" removal by Perioperative Services and tour units such as the Emergency Department, Birth Center Labor and Delivery Room, Lab and NICU.

Keith Boyd, PT, and Tomi Johnson, OT, CHT, and exercise specialists Nick Croll and Pat McWilliams, spent the morning with students sharing with them a typical day in the life of a PT/OT, the schooling needed to earn their degrees, and the skills needed to work in the field, specifically collaboration, communication and compassion. When asked about the event, Keith replied, “These kids are the future of healthcare and it was rewarding to be able to expose them to our field, and explain how important our role is in wellness, prevention and recovery.”
