Valley's Neuroscience Institute's Epilepsy Clinic accreditation as a Level 4 epilepsy center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers has been reaffirmed for 2018. Level 4 epilepsy centers such as Valley's Epilepsy Clinic, provide the highest level of care to people with epilepsy and other seizure disorders. "With 40 types of epilepsy and ten types of seizures, epilepsy is an amazingly complex condition," says epilepsy specialist and Neuroscience Institute Medical Director David Vossler, MD. "I am exceedingly proud of the multi-disciplinary team we've assembled to evaluate and collaboratively treat those in our community with epilepsy and our Level 4 certification which places us in the top tier of epilepsy centers nationally."

Mission: Possible – 1,000 Patients in 20 Days as Valley Surgeons and Surgical Staff Journey to Nepal on a Medical Mission! In November 2017, a group of Valley Medical Center surgeons and surgery staff took part in a surgical mission to Nepal as part of the Aloha Medical Missions program. In conjunction with dentists, gynecologists, and plastic and general surgeons from throughout the United States, the group provided care for some 1,000 patients and performed more than 100 major surgical procedures during the 20-day mission.

Valley is Energizing the Future with Solar Power! Valley's South Tower is sporting some new bling—132 glimmering 300W solar panels now flank the east and west sides of the building, ready to capture the rays. The rooftop-mounted system is slated to be fully operational in early March and will generate about 39.6kW. "These solar panels are another incremental step to being stewards of our planet for future generations," says Todd Thomas, VP of Facilities. With the addition of the solar panels, Valley saves more than $800,000 each year in energy costs. That's money that can be used for enhancing patient care in our community instead of paying for electricity.

Here's what Dr. Hori had to say: Alex is a gap filler, whatever nobody else can do, Alex steps in and does it. Just having him around makes my heart slow down and my blood pressure normalize. In the brief (time) I have known him, he has readily volunteered to help me manage some of the difficult resource issues my patients have. He never seems to have any issues, he just does it. Thanks, Alex, for being a great support to your colleagues and to Valley's patients!

The winning design was produced as a postcard and distributed to patients on Valentine's Day—and the winning artistic team, IT Analyst Ruri Lee and his wife, Katie.

Valley Medical Center was recognized with the 2018 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence, placing Valley's performance among the top 5 percent in the nation for at least 21 of 32 inpatient conditions and procedures analyzed by Healthgrades. Only 250 hospitals out of a total of nearly 4500 hospitals nationwide achieved this level of clinical quality. “With our collective focus on putting patients first, each Valley employee owns a piece of this tremendous recognition,” says Chief Medical Officer James Park, MD.
