New Medical Office Building and Cancer Center Break Ground! Celebrating a new era in patient care and experience coming soon for patients in South King County, Valley's new medical office building broke ground on Monday, Jan. 22. It will house a comprehensive Cancer Center, an innovative surgical program and expand access to specialists. Consolidating cancer care at Valley under one roof, the center will provide best-in-class care and treatment, a sanctuary of hope, help and healing that is truly coordinated and doesn't require patients to navigate all corners of campus. Multiple specialists review each patient's case as a team and develop a customized treatment plan, involving the patient and their family and encouraging them to make their own informed decisions. A variety of support services will also be housed in the Cancer Center to guide patients and families every step of the way.

Congratulations to Fall 2017 DAISY Awardee, Renee , RN, Pediatrics and Mother Baby unit. Renee went above and beyond the standard of care to help a young mom and her daughter. This 1-year-old girl was recently discharged with infantile spasms, a potentially devastating form of epilepsy which is treated with daily intramuscular injections of ACTH. Renee made a difference in the care of this child which will have a lasting effect on her and her family. She expressed exceptional consideration and understanding of the importance of providing mom with the training to give the injections. Perhaps more importantly, Renee was able to eliminate this source of anxiety for a mom who was so worried about her child. She helped this family feel reassured and cared for during their time of need. Thank you, Renee!

Congratulations to Fall 2017 DAISY Awardee, Maricelle, RN Birth Center. Maricelle, what an amazing nurse! Always has a smile on her face. She is so loving and caring. Maricelle was our nurse with our last pregnancy two years ago when we had to stay almost two months before our son was born. When we saw she was our nurse again, we were so ecstatic! We were looking for her and praying she'd be one of our nurses again. Maricelle truly makes us feel welcome and cared for and like we are part of the family! She is patient and as many times as we called her, cried to her, her smile never faltered. Her wanting to help never stopped. She truly is one of the best nurses ever! She deserves this award. She became part of our family and we will be forever grateful for her! Thank you Maricelle, with all our hearts and for all you did, and all the care. You are the best!

After the tragedy in Las Vegas, staff throughout our organization banded together to raise nearly $1,400 to provide meals to trauma teams at two Las Vegas hospitals. The staff at Spring Valley Hospital sent the following note of thanks:Lots of very thankful tears were shed last night at the start of the shift in sharing your story and your team’s desire to help. This generosity has been so touching and therapeutic for us, we simply can’t thank you enough!! The meal was delicious and laughs and fun times were shared together with you all in spirit! We will continue to pay it forward and forever define the Oct. 1 tragedy by the good that still exists in this world. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts!!! - The Spring Valley ER TEAM #VegasStrong
