Pros

Their platform is rapid and robust. Some people without degrees and who have "never read a scientific paper in their career" can advance to top management, easily (specifically if you are a male).

Cons

The HR relies on a couple internal voices to inform their decisions about employees. These voices are the same employees that will go out for coffee, buy flowers on their birthday, or arrange playdates with their children. HR will organize "special" events for their favorites; ie baby showers. Extended paternity/maternity leave or extended time off for only those worthy. Coincidentally, these same internal players careers' have advanced faster than anyone in the company. These special individuals are also the players that will complain about their colleagues without recognizing that they are the people knee deep in it all so that their career soars.

Take work hard play hard too seriously

Pros

The science is exciting and there are some very intelligent scientists.

Cons

The culture can be toxic. They take work hard play hard too seriously especially if you do not have a family. This is a young company because they want people who they can "work like a dog". The "play" does not make up for the 60 hour work week. There are some great people working here however upper management and one person in HR are very toxic. Management is promoted based only on their abilities as a scientist, not at managing employees. They don't seem interested in learning how to manage people, HR will coddle them, and do not know how to give feed back. HR does not keep anything confidential, one person in particular is catty and manipulative. She has no empathy and should not be working with people.

Pros

Depending on the team the science can be quite compelling, the platform is unparalleled and there's deep expertise in antibody engineering that's truly impressive. If you like living in rural NH this is a place for you - it can be a nice place to raise a family and has great access to the outdoors. The facilities are state of the art and the employee benefits are hard to match even in the greater Boston area.

Cons

You really have to have thick skin with the work hard/play hard culture. Some people have a great work life balance while others work late hours and live in fear of never having done enough. There's rampant favoritism amongst management and decisions abut you are made very quickly - you're either in the inner circle or you're not. There is ZERO emotional safety, feedback is not welcomed or taken seriously; even if delivered nothing is done about it. While I worked there I feared approaching HR with issues because of their inability to build trust with employees. HR is PATHOLOGICAL about promoting from within, even when key competencies are lacking, which makes the culture highly inbred and stale. There's no investment in manager development, which means managers are far behind best practices in the industry and have no idea how to coach and grow employees, set expectations or deliver feedback, let alone receive feedback. The company thinks that an occasional trip to a cool location can mitigate the toxic culture. There's something truly special in the quality of the science and the platform - if only HR cared to proactively grow the culture and empower people to build it together it could be such a fantastic place to work ...
