Open, compassionate workplace with amazing people
Pros
Alloy has a welcoming, inclusive culture and a big focus on openness. Hiring, sales, company financials, etc is all freely available for everyone to see. There's a lot of trust in everyone that we're all in it together and compassion for everyone around you. It's also a group of amazingly smart and friendly people, and in my time here I've learned so much and gotten so much help and mentoring from those around me. There's a large diversity of backgrounds and skillsets and everyone brings something of their own to the company. I've personally received a lot of support and recognition for working on the parts of the stack and product that I find most interesting and I think across the company there's a conscious effort to help people grow in the way they want to. Compensation is very competitive for Vancouver; a lot of recruiters I talked to in my job search cautioned me that I probably wouldn't be able to find the kind of salary I ended up getting at Alloy. Oh, and the company is growing like crazy. 🚀
Cons
Several of the most senior people work very long hours, which isn't expected at all from others (I work a pretty consistent 8hrs a day) but it's still the example being set and it can feel stressful or guilt-inducing to work a more normal amount sometimes. Due to the nature of the business, there's a reasonably significant amount of manual data work that needs to be done - though there's an active effort to create a data operations team and better tooling for this and reduce the amount of it that needs to be done by engineers.
