Pros

Enriching engagement with students in a school setting.

Cons

Compensation isn’t relative to the cost of living. Benefits aren’t comparable to those of surrounding localities with the same titled position.

Thank you for your commitment to our company during your years with us. I’m so glad to hear that you find our programming to be enriching and engaging, and it sounds like you enjoy your time spent with our students. To address your comment about compensation relative to cost of living as well as benefits, we have recently completed a compensation analysis and feel our pay rates are at or above average for our industry. We now also have benefits available for ALL team members, including part time, which we are incredibly proud of. As for Shannon Hampton-Lewis – I agree that she is a rock star at AlphaBEST! Thank you for taking the time to give her a shout-out here for all she brings to our company daily. Please feel free to contact me at lmoynagh@alphabest.org if you wish to speak about your concerns. I look forward to hearing from you!

Pros

Kids, Kids, and Kids! Easy schedule to follow. Pay is pretty good.

Cons

"Higher Ups" provide little to no support to zone leaders. There is no room for growth. They do not listen to the zone leaders. They expect a lot and yet give very little back. You run out of supplies too easily, and what is provided most of the time is sub par. Children that are discipline issues and oftentimes a danger to other kids are not dealt with appropriately. There were many times I as a leader was physically hit or kicked by a child and little to nothing was done, and the the children are still in the program. The most disheartening thing is that as a leader you feel like you and what you do does not matter. There is also no freedom as a leader in the curriculum....you are pretty much micromanaged and unfortunately not all kids are alike, and sometimes you need to be more flexible. That is pretty much frowned upon. Daily, I could have as many as 30 kids in my care, with the daily average being 22-27. Very much is required of you, yet very little is given. I would not recommend this program to parents looking for afterschool care or to future employees.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We value our Zone Leaders' opinions, as they are those who work most closely with our students each day. It was great to hear that you felt our pay was comparable to other businesses of this nature during the time you were employed with us. I also wanted to let you know that we are prioritizing things like communication and behavior support with the goal of helping employees feel both more connected here at AlphaBEST and more supported when it comes to accommodating students with special needs. We want everyone – families and staff members alike – to have a positive experience during their time with AlphaBEST. Feel free to reach out to me should you want to discuss anything further (halfonso@alphabest.org). Thank you for your contribution, Heather Alfonso, COO

Thank you so much for taking the time to share feedback about your time with AlphaBEST. I’m so glad you enjoyed building relationships with our families, and that you found the curriculum valuable. Regarding your comments about a need for training and more supplies, I wanted to share that we’ve improved our kitting process to make it easy for sites to receive all the materials they need in a seamless way. We’ve also added to our Professional Development team, allowing us to increase and improve the training opportunities we offer our staff. We’ve also introduced a new way for our management team to give feedback to their staff through an ongoing coaching model, rather than a once-a-year review. This, we hope, will open the lines of communication between team members and let our staff develop growth plans that their managers can build and support with them. Thank you again for your input! Best, Heather Alfonso
