Pros

It is a paycheck (but well below industry standards) No nights/weekends

Cons

If you are considering working for Aqua America.... DON'T. If your mental health is of any importance to you, run away as fast as you can! Besides being constantly berated by customers all day everyday due to Aqua's substandard water quality, consistent outages, outdated technology and just overall incompetency, be prepared to be micromanaged to the max including having to ASK & be granted permission to use the bathroom. Forget about work/life balance as you are frequently forced to give up your lunch for mandatory overtime and your shift can be altered with little to no notice. If you kiss enough butt and have a yessuh massa attitude you may be lucky enough to rise in the ranks one step up from a CSR to a team lead but don't set your sights higher than that as there is absolutely no room for growth. You will constantly feel inadequate in your job having been trained for just 2 weeks to learn the ins and outs, individual policies and regulations for several different states. Good luck finding someone with definitive information to help you as the left hand never knows what the right is doing and the answer depends on who you ask. Be prepared for pushback, attitude and back biting for ever daring to ask questions. Most people in the company act as though you are bothering them by trying to get the information needed to do your job. If you have a conscious this is definitely not the job for you as you will have to lie to people regularly including telling folks with black/brown/yellow water that they drinking supply is completely safe and that their concerns are inflated. You are encouraged to get the customer off of the phone as quickly as possible, not resolve their issues. Billing and payment processing issues cause customers to get turned off for non-payment in error and incur additional costs. Just another way for the company to increase revenue through reconnect/deposit fees. There are division representatives who seem to get great satisfaction in turning customer's water off or plugging their sewer lines. They will turn your service off right before a holiday knowing they will be unable to turn it on until after the holiday and get a kick out of customer's misfortune. Don't expect much regulatory interference as Aqua donates thousands to republican representatives to ensure minimal regulatory standards and continue to destroy the environment, contaminate the water supply while milking customer's dry. Management is usually either completely unavailable or indignantly incompetent. They will be at their desk and hear reps struggling on a call or see you calling for assistance and will not answer the phone nor offer support and if by chance you do get a supervisor or manager on the phone the answers they provide are usually incorrect. Calls get transferred to manager/supervisor voicemail and are not returned. Inappropriate comments, sexual harassment and general lack of professionalism are rampant. Upper management is mainly a good ole boys club with the exception of the national call center manager and will visit other offices and not even acknowledge the employees they claim are the backbone of the company. I mean they will literally fly down from PA and IL to visit the call center and will sit in a conference room 5 feet away from employees and never even parse their lips to speak making it quite clear that employees are unworthy of even basic salutations. Policies are arbitrarily enforced based on management's personal feelings. Employees constantly have mental/emotional breakdowns due to the stress of the job with no support from management. The place is a revolving door, constantly hiring/firing people or people just plain leaving. The pay is below industry standards and management has discontinued incentive programs.

Pros

The only pro I can think of is you do not have to work holidays. This job is Monday through Friday

Cons

Salary sucks for customer service compared to other utility companies and the yearly raises are a complete joke. You have idiots deciding on your pay raises
