Pros

Tons of opportunity to learn about rail transportation. Salary is decent, bonus is not so great, but the company pension & railroad retirement keep the flock in place.

Cons

There is no shortage of hours, but this is the norm in the transportation industry. Can rise to mid-level management fairly quickly, but politics prevent meaningful promotions. Simmering in middle management can be frustrating for talented individuals, and BNSF excels at this. The company does not maximize its talent. BNSF is big on selling its Leadership Model, and small on actually employing it on a day-to-day basis. Bonus program is based on company performance, so high performers are almost never rewarded for the value they've brought to the company.

Pros

The insurance is good for families but they want to take that away from us

Cons

The current management is a joke. They treat the employees and customers poorly. They have cut everything they can and cannot service customers because they have no crews. If you are looking for a job in tye you start out as a conductor. They are currently looking to get rid of that job and put them on the ground. If you want a paid leave day there is only 1 allocation for that day. You cant even take time off for the day you need. You will then reset your 14 days if you even take that day off. Google hiviz and you will see the articles about the attendance policy and how every terminal wanted to strike. Morale is all time low. The management only cares about cutting jobs. You are just a number. If you take off for Christmas and even superbowl Sunday or Mothers day they will ding you for more points. You only have 30 points for your career. There lack of treating employees right is why the company losing employees. Since hiviz came out February 1st we have lost 900 so far and counting. You will be forced into working overtime. Expect to only spend 10 and half hours at home and up to 36 hours away. Wash and repeat and this is the life you have to live with if you choose this career.

Pros

On the transportation/operations side there are not many. The wages are not competitive anymore.

Cons

We have a CEO who is out of touch with her workforce. She refuses to engage and sends others to eagerly do her dirty work. She has denied responsibility for the new policies put in place during her first year and has asked that employees NOT email her with complaints and suggestions. She and her management team have put us on the verge of a nationwide strike with their draconian attendance policy. I have been here 19 years and if I take a day off every 2 weeks, (I work on an on call basis 24/7/365 with no regular days or holidays off) I will be terminated in 8 weeks. Lastly, they took a safety culture that was flourishing for over 2 decades and ruined it in 2 months time. The termination of the Site Safety agreement on January 1st 2022 left all TY&E employees with no workplace safety program. This caused injuries to skyrocket and we have already had one death in the workplace in 2022. A friend of mine in management was told if he applies for Family Medical Leave for his spouse's upcoming medical event, his job will be posted. Workplace laws and regulations mean nothing here and I am not sure who is driving anymore.
