Where talent goes to die and mediocrity gets promoted

Pros

There isn't much to write about pros, to be honest. The pay lands on time and a few of my colleagues are nice.

Cons

This is, without a doubt, the most toxic environment I have ever worked in. The rot starts at the top and trickles down. It is an absolute cesspit of favouritism. Forget your skills, your experience, or your work ethic: they count for nothing here. The only thing that matters is who you know and, more importantly, who is sponsoring you. If you can find a senior manager to take you under their wing, you're golden. You'll get the promotions, the pay rises and the plumb projects, regardless of whether you're actually any good at your job. Would I recommend working here? Absolutely not. Only join if you're comfortable with selling your soul and playing nasty political games to get on. If, like most people, you just want to do a good day's work and be recognised for your contribution, stay far, far away. This place will grind you down and make you question your own abilities. It's a shame, because it didn't have to be this way.

Pros

This has been a challenging but rewarding place to work, we improve people's sight - what could be more rewarding? We have some incredible products to bring to market. There are genuinely fantastic, talented, and highly dedicated people here. Many individuals have grown their careers significantly within the organisation, and recent restructures are proof that internal progression is possible. For those working remotely in particular, there is excellent flexibility and autonomy it’s generally about what you achieve rather than time spent “in the saddle.” which is getting rarer in the market! In my experience, the business has also been very supportive when it comes to personal challenges, which makes a real difference. You need to be scrappy, proactive, have accountability and be willing to roll up your sleeves, this isn’t an easy 9–5 role, but it can be fulfilling for the right person. Base compensation and benefits are fair for an organisation of the size.

Cons

The last couple of years haven’t been easy due to business performance and constraints, and that has inevitably impacted the working environment. That said, there is a strong sense that the organisation understands where improvements are needed and that change is on the agenda. The business has grown through acquisition, and as a result the culture and matrix structure can feel fragmented at times. A more joined-up, cohesive approach throughout would benefit both employees and outcomes. Overall the infrastructure needs investment (specifically IT). While this is recognised and on the improvement agenda, it does impact day-to-day experience. At times, the organisation is trying to do too much. Greater focus (doing fewer things but exceptionally well) would help reduce strain and improve effectiveness.

A toxic and stressful environment fueled by senior Leadership

Pros

The only reason this isn't a zero-star review is the incredible people at the local level. My direct team and colleagues are talented, supportive, and created a real sense of camaraderie.

Cons

The positive local experience is completely shattered by the toxic and abusive culture dictated by the senior leadership team. Harassment & Bullying: Dissent or questioning is met with retaliation. I witnessed and experienced targeted campaigns to isolate and push out competent employees who were not "yes-men." Extreme Stress & Burnout: The constant pressure, fear of the next abusive call, and impossible, shifting deadlines create a perpetually high-stress environment. It's not "challenging"; it's psychologically damaging. "Do as I Say, Not as I Do" Leadership: The leadership preaches values like "collective intelligence" and "integrity" but operates with complete impunity. They are disconnected from local market realities, make dictatorial decisions without consultation, and then blame local teams for the resulting failures. No Safe Reporting Channels: HR is not your ally. They are there to protect the company and the senior leaders creating the toxicity. Reporting issues leads nowhere, or worse, makes you a bigger target.
