Micromanagement, unclear vision, constantly shifting priorities, favoritism, rude and unsupportive leadership, wasteful spending.

As a mental health organization, you’d think there would be a level of empathy and support for employees, but that is not the case at Brightside. Leadership has an inflated sense of their own expertise and rarely considers alternative perspectives, including that of SMEs they’ve hired. They have created a workplace culture that can feel disengaged at best and toxic at worst: During my time there, there were inappropriate comments made about mental health issues (the irony!) as well as disparaging remarks about employees’ work and intellect. While the company claims to have a standardized professional development process, it is inconsistently applied and ultimately depends on who your manager is. I know some employees who were promoted multiple times within a year, while others never were. There is zero direction in terms of growth, and they constantly change priorities since nothing seems to be working. Layoffs are used as a cost-cutting measure, yet fundamental product and service issues remain unaddressed. It is not lost on me that this place is called Brightside and is just the opposite.
