Pros

Commissions are great if they just pay them on time.

Cons

Unfair management let's you overwork, not thinking if you've gotten enough rest and sleep, doesn't pay commissions on time, then lay you off whenever they find it convenient for them. They will tell you you're not making enough sales, when the reason is because they are not giving you good leads. The only ones who get good leads are those who have been there for quite some time and can manipulate the managers.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this review. Your review clearly indicates that you did not like working at CARCHEX and we are not pleased about that. We are a bit surprised that we are finding out about your dissatisfaction through this review. We have always believed our senior management team is accessible to all CARCHEX team members to address concerns just like yours. However, based on your review, it appears we may not have been as accessible as we believed. We will take that to heart and make sure we do a better job of being accessible. Designing an effective and fair commission plan is challenging for any business, so thank you for acknowledging that we have designed a great commission plan. We are, however, confused that you believed that we did not pay commissions on time. We have a fixed payroll schedule that does not vary - Specialists are paid on the 15th and last day of the month. The paycheck on the last day of the month pays commission on sales from the 1st through the 15th of the current month The paycheck on the 15th of the month pays commission on sales from the 16th – last day of the prior month PLUS all bonuses and overtime earned for the prior month. We are confused as to your statement regarding overworking our Vehicle Protection Specialists. Over the past year, Vehicle Protection Specialists averaged approximately 3 hours per week of overtime. However, many of our top performing Vehicle Protection Specialists averaged less than 1 hour per week of overtime. We stand by the fact that if you follow our proven sales process, utilize the coaching of our sales management team and work efficiently, you can earn top dollar without working more than 40 hours per week. If you felt overworked, we wish you would have let us know while you worked here so we could have coached you on ways to work more efficiently while still maximizing your earnings. Finally, regarding lead distribution, all Vehicle Protection Plan Specialists are assigned leads from the same sources once they have over 30 days of experience. Distribution of leads is accomplished through our proprietary CRM system and Sales Managers do not have the ability to steer leads from any particular source to certain Specialists. If a Specialist’s employment is terminated for not meeting sales goals (which is typical for any sales organization), it is only after coaching and training has been exhausted and the Specialist has not shown improvement. Finding, hiring and training a Vehicle Protection Plan Specialist is extremely expensive. It would make no business sense for CARCHEX to incur that expense and then purposely provide bad leads to that Vehicle Protection Plan Specialist so that their employment can be terminated. Again, we are sorry that you did not feel you had a mechanism to convey your concerns to the proper person(s) while you were employed at CARCHEX. We wish we could have addressed your concerns and you would have found success as a Vehicle Protection Plan Specialist at CARCHEX. Pros

Great company and people, great benefits. Great location.

Awful sales model. Only the top few reps that have been there forever get good leads. Everyone else gets stuck answering awful direct mail calls from people that don't even own a car and aren't looking for a warranty. If you are new or not their favorite you will make NO COMMISSION. You can't "earn your way up" to dealer leads because your conversion rate is so low from the awful direct mail calls! And the product is too expensive. Most consumers don't care about value. They call for a quote and then hang up when you give them the price before you can explain why it's more expensive than others. And the only chance to make any good commission requires tons of overtimes. No work/life balance for poor commission.

Thank you for taking the time and effort to provide us with some insight about your experience working at CARCHEX. While it’s difficult to hear that you don’t believe that the CARCHEX sales model is working for you, we wanted to help address your concerns. Looking at the metrics for the month of August, the most recent available, there are a few things that you have claimed that are simply inaccurate. Over 80% of the sales team (which includes Specialists within their first month of employment) successfully hit the monthly bonus of at least $1,500 with many Vehicle Protection Specialists making much more on top of their commission from sales. In fact, the average bonus for a Vehicle Protection Specialist was $4,000 for the month with a high payout of $8,300. In addition, the average Vehicle Protection Specialist is earning an average income of over $85,000 per year. In regard to the second part of your feedback around the leads and product pricing, we believe we have set up a fair playing field for all Vehicle Protection Specialists. For example, we are proud that a new employee, who just recently graduated college, was able to become a top 5 Vehicle Protection Specialist in only his second month of employment. As for pricing, we are competitively priced in the marketplace and offer many ways to help consumers pay for their Vehicle Protection Plans over time, without charging our customers interest or requiring a credit check. We have and always will sell value provided, not just to be the lowest price on the market. Our conversion rates to sale have been extremely consistent over the past 2 years and our Vehicle Protection Specialists are earning more than ever before. As a current employee, we do hope that you take advantage of our on-going training and call reviews in order to improve your sales, product knowledge and time management skills to help you earn more money. We remain available to help and welcome your feedback on this site or in person. We’re always here to help you achieve your personal goals but that also takes commitment from you. Blaming lead quality and pricing which has not changed in two years for your personal results is much easier than doing the work it takes to be successful. Harassment is NOT OKAY! I wasn’t going to make a review but being that the coworker who was harassing me my entire time being at Carchex and management did nothing but give the coworker numerous “Talks” is unacceptable ! I tried staying seeing if what management said would help but it only got worst and I felt VERY uncomfortable! And decided to quit! On the sales side it’s majority males and a handful of females being that this is not the first incident dealing with HARASSMENT shows a red flag but what makes my situation “different “ the coworker was bringing in money for the company so I guess they feel as though he’s a reliable asset ! Which is sick! And something needs to be done other than giving a coworker “talks after talks” oh and it’s more than 1 female coworker who had a problem with the same male coworker all in the same month !? And nothing was done but a talk!?

We could not agree more that any harassment in the workplace is not okay. However, to say that management did nothing or only gave an employee numerous talks is simply not true. In any case of harassment or employee misconduct we follow a very thorough process to deliver an appropriate reprimand and resolution. It’s inappropriate for us to get into details of any HR issues publically in order to protect all parties but from what I am gathering from your review it appears you are upset that this alleged issue did not result in a termination. However, let me be clear in no uncertain terms, if management is presented with clear evidence that an employee was or is violating our harassment policy at CARCHEX, that employee would be terminated regardless of their position in the company or their performance. I’m saddened to hear that you did not feel safe at CARCHEX. We do everything possible to promote a positive and safe work environment. Our award winning culture is the thing we are most proud of at CARCHEX.
