Pros

- Fairly easy to do job - holiday bonuses - Benefits are really good. (better than the job i work at now) - coworkers easy to get along with - good job for college students. They can work around schedule. - Small Trips for senior dispatchers

Cons

1) Poor pay and doesn't get much better over the years. 2) Promotional opportunities are limited to whether people in said position choose to leave. Now granted they did offer promotions at offices opening up in other states but who leaving the state to make a couple dollars extra? 3) OT is expected whenever they are busy. While they cant force you, they give you the evil eyes when you clock out. (and they get busy often..during storm, lack of employees etc) 4) Response Time! once you work there you'll understand how annoying and stressful it can become. 5) They tell you when to go on lunch, often separating it into three 10 minute breaks. There's days where you may not even get your full break because its busy. Yet, they don't pay you for lunch. 5) Turnover is very high. Its not uncommon for new hires to quit within the first month. 7) Have to wear a uniform. (I know this isn't a big deal but you sit at a cubicle amongst co-workers only. Why you have to wear a dumb button-up shirt with the name COPS stitched on it is beyond me) i could go on..but i'd just be nit-picking a this point

Pros

Kind people who are doing their best, can quickly move up the (small) management ladder because if you stay longer than 6 months you have more experience than 50% of the people there.

Cons

Dismal work environment (ugliest and most defunct workspace I've ever been in-- me and my coworkers would fight over good chairs and working computers), coworkers are bummed out, high turnover rate, clients are rude and often senseless, bathroom breaks are monitored, a general sense of hopelessness and stagnation. I was so thrilled to get out of there.
