Pros

Large footprint across Northern CA, NV and UT. Front line employees are genuine, honest and hard working. Strong brand recognition.

Cons

Dishonest leaders. Claim to "Live" the Values of Diversity, Integrity, Excellence, Adaptability, Members First and Collaboration. Senior Executives, Jim Pouliot, Bob Wilkes and Paula Downey have destroyed a once great California institution by outsourcing California jobs to conservative states OK, AZ and CO, that takes care of the Diversity value. Staged employee engagement surveys that are used as a "Mousetrap" to further destroy employee morale. There goes the integrity. Taking low paying jobs out of California and placing them in states where they can pay even lower rates works for the short term, in the long term it damages the economy of California and thus impact their Members. There goes Members First.

Pros

The benefits and Paid Time Off is excellent. What once was stability has changed to an environment of uncertainty. Discounts on AAA insurance may be considered a benefit, but when a subsidiary is quoted the employee is not allowed to receive the discount. Liberty Mutual gives CSAA employees a 5% discount as a professional courtesy. The free membership is also an added benefit too. Other positives about working here...we have gone through this roller coaster three times in the last twenty years. The difference today is we have more people in Senior Management rolls while losing front line employees.

Cons

Office closures, layoffs, poor moral that has been created by Senior Management.

Pros

People who have become your friends. Dollar for dollar match of 401K up to 6%. Flex time depending on your manager. Relatively good amount of PTO with 3 weeks the 1st year, 4 weeks the second year, and 5 weeks beginning the 5th year. Good work/life balance, depending on your manager/department.

Cons

Bad managers who have no people skills continue to remain at CSAA while driving away good, hardworking, knowledgeable employees. There is no succession planning for employees to move up and get promotions. Medical benefits are expensive and is not keeping up with the annual merit increase. There is no accountability when it comes to going over budget or expensive projects not performing. The company does not believe in promoting from within, but would rather hire someone from the outside who usually do not have insurance experience. The company has created many useless positions with highly compensated executives that are considered "empty suits." The company's technology is so outdated, I don't know how CSAA will continue to keep up with the more "progressive" companies.
