Pros

Amazing mission --- helping providers and patients better communicate! Some really smart people work here.

Cons

No leadership. The founders are so overwhelmed they can't stay above water. HR is clueless and not supportive. When sexual harassment complaints are filed, HR tells people to "WORK IT OUT." No standard approach to performance or productivity --- just depends if your manager likes you or not. New hires in leadership positions with NO EXPERIENCE in healthcare or IT. Working as an analyst at a hospital or consulting firm does not equate to the experience required to be a EVP, Partner, or C-level contributor. Some new leadership hires have blatantly lied about their experience and they continue to run their teams into the ground with no intervention from the top --- you cannot just "pretend" to have sales experience when you do not. Compensation is all over the map. Some people are insanely overpaid, and others are significantly below market averages. This also has ZERO to do with experience, but more who your friends are. If the founders like you, you can basically do no work and skate by.

Thanks for taking the time to express your thoughts and opinions about working here at CipherHealth. We're really sorry to hear that you feel this way. As the review indicates you are still with us, we truly hope you are open to having honest conversations with your manager and/or myself to talk some things through. We'd like to share facts about the things you mentioned. Our doors are always open. I do feel responsible for addressing a few of the more serious issues you raised. We do have a great mission and many, many smart people working here. A lot of our team and leadership has extensive years of experience – including in healthcare. We are proud of our people and the work they do every day – engaging with customers to drive change in this important vertical that impacts millions of lives each day. We just finished our annual round of Anti-Discrimination and Sexual Harassment training and reviewed our internal process for handling and communicating with the entire organization, including a special session for managers. If there is ANY complaint that falls into this area, the HR and management teams are legally obligated to follow up, and would do so in every single situation to ensure the highest level of behavioral standards are set and adhered to every day. We are committed to creating and nurturing an environment based on trust and respect. We do have a formal check-in process for discussing performance and giving feedback and this process is now tied to our annual compensation cycle. We have also just begun a major compensation market pricing exercise that will enable us to assess and analyze our pay strategy and its execution across the organization. Our initial findings are showing that we have done a pretty decent job as we scaled very quickly over the past 18 months due to our growth! We are pleased with how it is going and look forward to finalizing this project this summer. Finally – on the new hires in leadership… We have a very rigorous, multi-stage process for hiring at all levels at CipherHealth. We are looking for smart people, who are committed to driving change in healthcare through working with our customers at every level. We are proud of the team we are building!

Pros

Products are good and well received in the market. Pay and benefits are decent, but not close to being worth the Cons below.

Cons

Out of the gate, it was apparent that job duties were completely different than tasks demanded of me, and which were monitored and critiqued on a daily basis. I experienced hostility, threats and was continually criticized and tested. I've never experienced such un-professionalism. To be on company-wide calls where there was swearing, to other "leaders" throwing fits and temper tantrums when they don't get their way, is ridiculous and embarrassing. The company has no true human resource function, leaving those threatened individuals at the mercy of retaliatory actions and threats. In many cases, the only option is to leave the company. The term "leader" at this company is used loosely, for those who are unable to make decisions, and who are too scared to stand up to the hostility of the Sr. Management. The sales / account management "leaders" continually play favorites. The recent (late 2018 / early 2019) mass departures should be a wake-up call to this company. If you want to be micro-managed with mundane and elementary tasks, be publicly humiliated / demeaned, disrespected to the point that you lose nights of sleep and dread each work day, then this is the place for you.

We are truly sorry to read your comments here today. I am sorry that you feel this way. I would like to respond to a few of your comments as it is impossible for us to know who you are - and we have had zero exits from our San Francisco office since September of 2018 - so that makes it even harder. If that is truly where you are from, then you have been gone for quite a while and MUCH has changed here at Cipher. First and foremost, I can assure you that we do have a "true" HR department here at Cipher. I joined the Company early in 2019 and have the privilege to lead a team of dedicated and highly proficient HR professionals. Second, we take any and all allegations of inappropriate behavior very seriously, and have processes in place to address. We would and will not tolerate any sort of retaliatory behavior with regard to any behavior that might be reported. We do admit that due to our explosive growth, and the amazing products that drive it - as you mention in your note - we have scaled in size very very fast, and not all of our HR management processes are optimized, and in some cases are still works in progress. However, we have not had anything close to "mass" departures - our turnover is significantly below the industry average and this year is less than 5% - which is lower than almost any industry - and far lower than normal SaaS company numbers. We have a GREAT culture here at CipherHealth and we are constantly working to make it even better. We wish you luck in your next endeavor and thank you for the kind words about our amazing product suite.
