Pros

You get the opportunity to wear many hats, especially if you're recruited out of University for their management program. Great roles to build relationships with construction tradesman, specifically electricians.

Cons

There is a lot of bias and nepotism in the company. Relatives to management or salesmen with high-dollar accounts will be fast-tracked to higher positions in the company. This is definitely a company reliant on "who you know". The management trainee program that CED is known for pulls fresh candidates from local universities with zero electrical industry or management experience and pushes them thru all roles associated with the profit center within only months to gain experience. They are promised that they'll manage their own remote profit center after going through each role but most never make it to the end. The ones that make it to store manager usually manage a small profit center or two for a little while and then leave the industry. This company also uses Profit Sharing as a means for increasing pay rather than raising based income. If sales are down once Profit Sharing time rolls around, you can expect to receive a decreased profit share. my profit sharing rate before leaving the company was around 55% base pay, 45% profit sharing (PS paid out at one time).

CED is as good to work for as the manager you report to

Pros

CED has some amazing people and the potential is nearly endless. In some cases, you can truly be empowered to create, not only your own business, but your own cultural foundation. As a decentralized logistics & sales model it puts a priority on flexibility/adaptability and being close to the customer. It has the levers in place to reward people for the work they do. The individuals working at 'corporate' to support the rest of the organization are absolutely phenomenal. They 100% buy into the 'service center' concept and it's truly a great cultural concept if allowed to be properly used.

Cons

That decentralized model makes certain Managers/Leaders consider themselves Kings. They run massive departments with a large number of individuals beneath them with little-to-no oversight. If someone in that position doesn't like you, they'll find a way to remove you. CED is the definition of a 'good'ol boys club' - you're expected to conform yet they preach autonomy. They write about wanted people who don't need to be micromanaged and can 'run their own businesses'. This is a lie - senior management wants you to run your 'local' business their way. And if you speak up otherwise, you'll be moved and/or removed. Ego's trump performance while they preach the antithesis. It's easy to go on and on - I was harassed, targeted, retaliated against and at the end - another manager was doing the exact same things that i was 'told' i was removed for. This manager was praised over and over again as he breaks more rules than any 'young' manager could ever dream of.

Pros

Fun environment, profit share based so you get a large bonus once a year depending on profits of last year.

Cons

Highly toxic financial environment. Any talk of salaries between employees is forbidden (even though it's illegal to prevent the open discussion of salaries), and discussing profit share amounts is grounds for firing. Many locations have a heavy nepotism presence, which makes is near impossible for non-family members to advance regardless of experience or skill.
