Pros

Taking the long view (as someone who has been with the company since it was founded in the mid-noughties), I have found my time full of interest, both technical and commercial, full of change and challenges. The company is vibrant and stimulating, always developing new product to meet an ever-changing market place. It's a great place to be for those who want to see what their particular contribution means to the success of the company, and to become a valued expert in some chosen area. To be honest I felt compelled to write something to balance and counter some of the negative feedback that has been posted. Clearly there have been people who have not had a good experience, but everyone's journey is their own and will be shaped by who they are as well as who they are working with (I mean to point out that reviews can be unbalanced because they do not indicate how the author was to work with, or their skills, temperament etc.). There is always regret and soul-searching when a poor review is posted, and when comment has been fair I believe the company has learnt from it. Joining can be tough if it coincides with a time when the relevant department is a bit overloaded, but those that see initial difficulties through find a long-term future. There's a lot of camaraderie, the departments have a sense of working towards common goals, and there's not a lot of the kind of office politics that can dominate large institutions in particular.

Cons

Commercial pressures can be heavy at times (but that is, after all, the "real world"). Joining can be tough if it coincides with a time when the relevant department is a bit overloaded.

Pros

Offices look really professional and attractive The market they work in is one that is fast growing Job on paper sounded really good eg. field sales from day one 'Promised' basic salary was £35,000 very quickly after joining

Cons

Horrible place to work If you go to one of their assessment days they will start by asking you how many of you are aware of their bad reputation and reviews by graduates and former employees - they will then liken that to Apple by saying look at how many bad reviews Apple get! Apple - possibly do get a high number of bad reviews - because they sell so many products. If 0.1% of Apple's customers complain - that is a big number! You try and find 5 graduates that have ever had a good experience at Content Guru. Poor employer. They have now finally agreed to do external training but only because they have to.... that epitomises the company ethos. do what they have to in order to hire staff. Pay a basic salary higher than most (if you last that long) to keep people long enough to do some work for them. The only sales job I interviewed for where the basic was very high and the bonuses were fixed and a small percentage of salary (all vague). Again, that is because they don't want to pay more than they have to. They say it is to ensure that sales people are motivated to behave correctly - if that is the case why does know one else in the industry do it? You can't tell me Cisco, IBM, Vodafone, Unit 4, Oracle, Verizon, have problems getting their sales people to be ethical. Those companies are all close to Bracknell and far better for graduates. The owners of Content Guru are only interested in themselves. They will argue that they are big fans of supporting charities - yes, at their kids private schools!!! You will see them at the interview and never again. I regret joining content guru as it almost put me off sales and made me misserable. As a graduate - don't get sucked into the nice offices, stories of how they have grown the business to be worth lots of money (they have - for their own gain), and how they will develop you. Instead join a company that clearly does look after it's staff and has good reviews to prove it. There are too many companies to work for that will look after you better.

Pros

I have had over 30 years in major technology companies and this sets the highest standards in people and products of all of them. This usually means that once the potential customer is engaged the products sell themselves. Colleagues are very friendly and there is less politics than any other company I have worked for. The Senior Managers are very loyal to the staff (assuming you maintain the high standards required). If you meet the work ethic and high standards you will do well.

Cons

It has great technology but as a brand is not well known because it has so far primarily sold through partners, although this is changing with an increasing focus on direct sales. If you don't meet the work ethic and high standards you will not enjoy this place or be moved on fairly quickly - but this is stressed in the interview. The demanding environment is not for everyone but there are opportunities to succeed for those with the right mindset.
